Opinion Skelton - signs with Tigers from 2025

RIP his FG career.

Gone from fapping over him to enemy lmaoo

lol we are in 5th spot knocking on the door of the top 4, Ciraldo got fucking zero wrong this year.

We'd be top 4 if he didn't have Hutch there for so long. Relax, no ones bagging Ciraldo, and no one's expecting him to get everything right as a second year coach, but don't mean he has been perfect.

Na, he can rot at the Tigers. That's Sua's spot, Foxy is keeping it warm for him.
Brother, you shouldn't hold grudge against your precious
Remember we have a cap not a sombrero, contracts to upgrade positions to reinforce...
IMO he is a big loss but I'd rather lose a player as a result of success than failure !

If he went to Tigers to be coached better, he has picked the wrong club.
pretty sure skelton went for money, i dont think he even cares about the dogs, he isnt even a league player
I looked at skeltons rebels record in union, played 2-3 games in 4 years
Its either the tigers or working concrete labouring

No, CC got that right.
Short term pain for long term gain.
No one knows what would have happened if Sexton came back earlier. Highly probable he would not have corrected all the areas CC wanted improved and he may not have been anywhere near as effective as he has been is he was promoted back to FG.
In other words, we might not even be in top 8.
As I say, no one knows what would have happened but certainly no one can justifiably knock CC’s decision.

What grudge? He isn't a Bulldog anymore so why should I care about him?

Imagine choosing from staying with a club with a very real shot at winning the title this and in the coming years to a club that has a very real shot at winning the spoon each and every year.

He's 4th string winger here, maybe even lower with Sua coming through. He pretty much had to leave but I'm a bit surprised no one else was after him.

I hold nothing against Skelly, I wanted him to stay, he got a few games this season, he would likely have gotten more next season, and maybe even pushed for a regular spot. But it isn't to be. I'll say this for him, he has gone to a club that needs help, and if he takes even half of what CC and co have been instilling into Bulldogs culture during his time with us, he will be an asset to them. Respect to him for that, because I hate the trend of players with good potential leaving the down clubs and going to glamour clubs.

On JAC, who has gotten a lot of chatter in this thread, first of all I don't think it can be emphasised enough that he moved from a glamour club to a down club, and when he signed for us, we were really really down. That is a massive call, and speaks a lot to his character, it goes against the trend of so many other players.

And he didn't do it for overs. There is a lot of talk about the amount of cap that the Fox is supposedly taking up. I call BS. Most have his contract as $550k. He accepted that when he was the NSW and Australian winger, premiership winner, and regarded by most as a top 3 winger. These days he is easily in the top 10 winger, and his pay still reflects that. According to the supposed leaked NRL documents with contract data on them, the average pay for the 10 highest paid wingers in the comp in 2023 is $590k. The highest paid winger is DWZ on $800k.

So no, we aren't overpaying him, and we wouldn't open up much cap space to speak of by losing him unless we replaced him with someone of considerably lower quality.

I think many clubs offered, but tigers are just desperate for signings. Tigers just chuck $$$ at whoever lol

It’s very disappointing to lose a player that has the upside he does. I guess he had an opportunity to play more NRL at Tigers or they offered more but I don’t really get it. They have Staines and will have Turuva next year. I’m sure there are a few others also, so I don’t see Jeral going there as meaning he’s a certain starter. Plus he’s gone to be coached by Benji who hasn’t proven anything yet. Tigers are still anchored to the bottom of the ladder like they have been the last 2 years.

I worry Jeral has made a big mistake, but it may have been his best option.

Gus recently said on the Gus on Twitter thread that he signed Sua long term last year.

Wilson was already re-signed earlier this year too iirc. They obviously didn’t prioritise Skelton and I can only support their judgment, because Ciro and Gus have earned that. We only see what happens on game day. As disappointing it is to see Jeral leave, we have one of the best wingers of the last decade with still some good footy in him, then Wilson, Sua, Mazzone, Wavik etc in waiting. Kiraz has cemented himself as the right winger too.
