For anyone who grew up in Sydney this bloke was likely a part of your daily life for many years.

‘The way it is <insert date> This is Brian Henderson. Goodnight’.

A thoroughly decent man in the rough and tumble world of old school journalism and before the mis-information age. RIP Old Mate…

To be honest I thought he was way older and assumed he'd already passed.. I guess he was like Gene Hackman. He looked 70 even when he was 35.

RIP to Hendo, he was an institution as a news anchor. You don't get journalistic integrity these days from anchors like you did then.

Growing up with only 2 TV channels in an era before the internet, it was Brian Henderson on 9/win and Richard Morecroft on the abc.

Both very respected, no nonsense newsreaders. They were men you would trust.
That was the thing, they didn't look like they were trying to appear trust worthy or anything. They combined a seriousness with a wry smirk, like they got it, and we got it too.

R.I.P. Hendo. Family always had the news on 6:00pm nightly so like many people I became accustomed to hearing his voice and sign off.

I remember his final bulletin came on the night of my year 12 formal so I couldn't watch it live - but here it is:

Like any schoolkid growing up in the seventies sat down in the loungeroom to watch Brian at 6pm.
RIP and thanks for doing what wouldn't of always been any easy job giving us the bad news.

What a legend, I grew up as a kid with him reading the news. He was always professional and cheerful at the end of the news. Supposedly he was a good tennis player too. To think he fought off 5 different times of cancer. It took his toll at the end and didn’t want any treatment for the last one. Rest In Peace.
