I've heard of this one before many moons ago but can't remember it. The trick is not to multiply 3 x 9 resulting in 27. I can't remember the rest.3 friends had $10 each and pooled their money to buy a car. They brought a car for $30. The salesman overcharged them by $5 so he went to find them to give them their money back, but he lost $2 on the search. When he found the 3 friends he gave them $1 each back meaning they paid $9 each for the car. 3 * $9 = $27, the $2 he lost on the search adds up to $29, where’s the other dollar from the original $30?
There is no other dollar.3 friends had $10 each and pooled their money to buy a car. They brought a car for $30. Yep$10
You "had" past tense.
Spot on, the trick is in how you calculate it.Trick I'm guessing is to wrongly concentrate on the $27 rather than simply differencing $30-$25 and seeing that the $5 is account for ($2 lost + $3 returned) which all checks out.
