Totally different mindset being parachuted in as an “interim coach”; no real expectations. Potter and his coaching staff got the programme for the Warriors campaign horribly wrong.
Special mention to Vaughan who yet again was our best & most consistent….yet won’t be with us next season-& Averillo once again demonstrated ineptness in the Fullback position. Payten showed Potter last week that even when you play badly, good forward rotation & smarter interchange decisions can change the game even when the team is playing poorly. ZDC is borderline NSW Cup & makes little to no contribution.
Over the past 2 seasons big athletic body at FB (Mitchell &Trbojevic) have turned average teams into Contenders. In Jeral Skelton we have an imposing agile, strong, fast and skillful athlete who is a good one on one defender and a powerful fend. The traits required to be an X factor Fullback in the NRL today.
It would be wise for Gus to invest in “the best of the best “ available coaching staff to take each player in our 2023 roster and make them better individually & competition contenders.

im happy to try Skelton at fullback its just we are yet to see his ball playing ability another crucial aspect to a fullbacks game apart from that I completely agree

Given your reply,
2 things are obvious:-
1) you haven’t got a clue
2)you haven’t got a clue.

He has a RU background; played 7s as centre/wing & flanker(2nd row) in the 15 version. Both totally different forms of the game & roles/positions. May I suggest you at the very least watch some footage of him (skill level, strength & speed)before embarrassing yourself with ignorant comments.

Some good points in your post.

The bench rotation is also impacted by poor roster - the club has far too many good nsw cup standard players playing regular fg and not enough fg standard players in NSW Cup. The roster is poor due to a combination of things 1. Poor recruitment 2. Poor development at jun level 3. Poor coaching / fitness/ strength / technique at elite level.

How does any of that relate to fb? He is not a fb, and id put money on him never playing there for us. Absolute weapon though, and should get a start next week.

We are still two big name forwards away from being able to keep up for 80 minutes.
Still a big name fullback away and a proper strike centre is also in need.
Our bench rotation is too weak and slow
They don’t need to be big names. Just good solid Props who do their job and make metres. Vaughan type player. We need to replace Vaughan with a like type player and another one exactly the same.

I haven't seen too much of Skelton, he appears to be a beast in attack but I'm not convinced he is up to speed yet defensively. I'm happy for him to keep learning his rugby league trade in reserve grade until he's ready. The defensive patterns in rugby league are much different to rugby 7's.

1. Get Payne Haas to ask for a release again, then bring him to Belmore.
2. The Roosters need cap relief, see if they would chip in 200k (still saves them 500k) and bring over Jared Waerea-Hargreaves for a year or 2.

TV cannot do justice just how terrible we were - The off camera stuff with players not communicating and yes fitness is an issue but to get lapped by the warriors at 18-18 when the game is in the balance is embarrassing (they scored like 3 tries in last 5 mins)

The Potter magic /honeymoon period is over , this thrashing has undone a lot of his good work with what you mentioned about selections and interchange.

Skelton would’ve wreaked havoc out there so not sure when is the best time to debut him when last night was perfect

Averillo has now had 3 straight poor games and his confidence looked shot out there…maybe he will improve over the off season?

Do we recruit a fullback?

The last time I saw us play round one 2019 we got lapped but last night was 100 times worst given we had a better squad out there and Wahs had a worse team than they did in 2019

I see you are hurting KDog and understandable after witnessing that. To answer your question yes we do need a fullback. The clubs focus should be on a 7,1 and prop and weed out of the cup guys like Stimson, ZDC etc. this won’t happen over night but needs to be the priority.

Hi KiwiDog7

Sounds like you made the effort to go and watch the game live.

Sorry that what you got in return was the disappointment of an inept performance and another loss.

I have had very little luck seeing us win live. Whilst we have been poor for several years, we have won some games here and there but I always seem to pick the wrong games to go to. I haven't seen us win a game live for about 4 years but have probably been out to see us lose about 10 games in that time.

I'm f**king sick of it.
