A little birdie has told me the Bulldogs are looking closely at former Cronulla sharks player Brett Kearney.
Kearney whos early career with South Sydney and Cronulla had his Australian football career cruelly affected by injuries to his foot and hand. He joined the Bradford Bulls in 2010 and until this season played most of the super league season each year.
Kearney has great utility value for the Dogs, having played half and 5/8th, hooker and for the Bulls predominantly Fullback.
Very importantly, he has not suffered any serious knee or ankle injuries.
2014 marks the end of his contract with Bradford and Kearney would like to return to Australian shores to finish his career here. I understand the Dogs are casting an eye over him because despite being 30, he is still one of the best Fullbacks in Super League with good speed, a great swerve and is the consummate backer upper al la Baa.
Last year, 2013, Kearney scored 10 tries in 10 games. Take a look at this You Tube video to see his speed, swerve and backing up abilities. Despite being slightly built he is a tough natural footballer.

With Ennis's departure, the Bulldogs are looking at the possibilities of Kearneys experience and utility value as well, although it is at Fullback that the Dogs have identified Kearneys ability to sniff out a try and having a roving commission that provides the most value to the team.
The Dogs are only too aware that with the sudden loss of form of Barba last season that the team has lacked a genuine X factor.
Brett Kearney may be able to give the Dogs a couple of good years.
Before you write him off, take a look at the You Tube video and consider the fact that Billy Slater is 30 and no doubt has a couple more good years in him and Slater DOES have serious question marks over the ability of his knees to hold up. Im not comparing Kearney to superstar Slater. Im merely suggesting that a footballer is not necessarily washed up at 30.
Thoughts???
