The Parramatta Eels have been made aware of an alcohol related incident involving Peni Terepo from the weekend in New Zealand.

The Club has stood Peni down immediately, including this week’s Round 1 game against Penrith.

The Club will now work with the relevant authorities in New Zealand, the NRL Integrity Unit and the RLPA to investigate the incident thoroughly.

This process will then guide our next steps.

The Club will make no further comment until the investigation is completed.

The NRL career of Parramatta forward Peni Terepo is on the line after he was escorted off a flight for being drunk and abusive and stood down by the club.

The 27-year-old was stood down from the club indefinitely on Monday after reports he drunkenly argued with an Air New Zealand flight attendant.

Eyewitnesses say the 108kg prop was drinking heavily in the lounge before his flight bound for Auckland over the weekend.

He reportedly tried to bring alcohol on board the flight in a paper coffee cup, witnesses told Stuff New Zealand.

When a stewardess told him it was not allowed, he began yelling at her, according to other passengers.

'He threatened the air hostesses that his lawyer would be contacting them because they were wrong. He continued to drink his alcohol in his coffee cup and the manager had to snatch a larger spirit bottle from him.'

The manager of the flight read Terepo the rules of the airline, which prohibits bringing alcohol aboard, and told him police would be meeting them at the tarmac.

The Parramatta Eels confirmed he would be stood down indefinitely after reports of an 'alcohol related' incident

Passengers say he was restless throughout the flight, flirting with a 'visibly uncomfortable' air hostess.

'From her body language I could tell she felt uncomfortable as he prompted her with questions like "what are you doing after or tonight?" and "Do you come to Parramatta?" in his drunken state.'

He fell asleep and was escorted off the flight by a pair of police officers when it landed in Auckland, though charges were not laid.

An investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit and the league's Player's Association is now underway.

The Eels confirmed he will not feature in the side's round one clash against Penrith this Sunday as the investigation is underway.

The findings could result in further punishment for the 27-year-old.

The scandal is the latest in a series that has rocked the NRL's offseason, headlined by sexual assault allegations made against a pair of players and a spate of leaked sex tapes.

....

Not the crime of the century but bloody stupid given the current climate (and just before season starts).

Side note, but how cute is his doggo :D It's pulling the exact same face I did when I heard Parra were in the shit again.

Gee, even fringe footy players have huge ego's and think they're better than everyone else..

Ah pardon me but are not the NRL the ones to hand down punishments now or is that only for really bad stuff. Thought that after the stuff ups of the past that the power was taken out of the hands of the clubs in deciding the fate of a player.......or are they doing the responsible 'sorry thing in the hope that punishment will not be too severe.....

The old high and mighty routine. I'm a first grade footy player rules and bad behavior don't apply to me. I do what I want.
