FFS stop believing the rubbish you read in the fish wrapper dailies, they make up numbers to suite their agenda. In the Cap (the only thing that matters) Flanagan cost us less than $220k this year. The Chooks kick in $100k and he is on a uni education scholarship which is not counted in the Cap.

Always a Bulldog
That’s this year what about next year and I hope you are right we need to address the 7 it’s a massive issue

That's a sexy af NRL team and probably same as mine. If Cotric is released, we can play Avo in 4 and Naden 5 and give Alomoti some stints off the bench to get a feel for the top grade. BBO to 7. How good are options?

2023 line up with purchases that I believe are possible…
1. Laurie ( got the connections with the penny bois, good mates with naden, coached under tbaz before)
2. Addo-carr
3. Shoupp
4. Alamoti
5. Naden
6. Burton
7. BBO or Averillo
8. Thompson
9. Mahoney
10. Patolo
11. Kikau
12. TPJ
13. Jackson
14. Cook
15. Seumanafagai
16. Hetherington
17. Tuifua/Pope/Judda/King
I look at our off contract players for 2022 and only see topine, king and hetherington’s mutual option being retained and the rest leaving. Vaughan would probably go to the super league or dolphins for a leadership role. Dufty i dont see as the long term fb, laurie is very talented in which i could see us getting from the tigers. Backrow is interesting as TPJ is unknown for where he will play but we do have some solid backrowers who for 2022 with the two reserve grade sides will definitely prove themselves to who plays there. I like this two reserve grade side alot as it keeps we bsuy on weekends and we can test out the future talent we might have.

I reckon you are pretty close to how we will start the season except for Schoupp not being available until mid year. I have a feeling that Avacado may start in the centres and Flopagain might get a final last chance at HB, not saying that is what I would do but it may happen.
Schoupp back training and on track to playing trials I been told

Last week “the massive issue” was hooker and that problem is now solved for 2023. Obviously Gould has plans and plenty of options both from within the playing group and external. Fixing a 30 player roster is not a matter of snap your fingers and Shazam we have all the positions filled with exactly the right player. It takes time and lots of work by a team of people.

Exactly how well the current halves already on our roster are going to develop over the next 12 months no one truly knows. There’s plenty of talent there as Gould has stated several times and personally I’m looking forward to seeing how all of our young guys progress. It may well be that in 12 months we don’t have an issue, let alone a massive one.

This could be spot on now that Cotric has left. I think the club wants to move averillo to the backline and trial Flanagan/burton , wakeham/ burton and bbo/burton

Round 1 my guess:

Dufty
JAC
Naden
Burns (hear me out)
Schoupp or Okunbor (hear me out)
Burton
BBO
Jackson
TPJ
Hetherington
Thompson
JMK
Vaughan

Res:
Avo (Benji, Dylan Walker type role - a roaming 13 then running 13 in last 10 minutes of game. Obviously backup 9 too)
Ava
RFM
Patolo

2 things Gus has said about outside backs during his commentary over the years:

a) he likes them to be tall to have kicking targets / aerial threats (Burns and Naden)
b) speed is good in back 5, but you need to balance it out with metre eaters (think To’o, Ferguson). So Schoupp is our best outside back metre eater now by a mile, and on the wing he will get more chance to take the very important / critical first carry of the set).

Really hope we push Naden to the other wing. Not sure why we need another middle, rather TPJ there and another backrower instead.

Whose in the centres then, Burns and Schoupp..not Allan i'm thinking no because maybe Burns defends better but toss of the coin?

That gives us fuck all options in the backrow.

I think we need to look at not focusing on ball playing through our 13 and run something like:

8. Vaughan
10. TPJ
11. Hetherington (Left)
12. Jackson
13. Thompson

15. Patolo
16. Ava
17. RFM/Judda

Yes Burns and Schoupp. My brain can't process Okunbor being a top 2 winger at the club, he has some decent carries in him but he still struggles with the basics of wing play.

Yeh i think Ok can fill a hole when needed and its likely at some point he will be required but has to be 3rd cab off the rank atm.
Hopefully we stay as per program at the back or on the wings at least.
Unsure about the new recruit Lumelume think he is 4th in line.

From what I’m hearing , Okunbur is front runner for the other wing spot .
Tpj burton Naden addocarr left edge

hetherington has been on the right edge all pre season . Obviously we have Rfm or Waddell as the other options . Schoupp has a fight on his hands for the other centre spot . Alomati / Burns could be there before him .
