Penalized for offside because manly lost the ball in that hitup. The refereeing is just laughable

The referee doesn't have to stand back ten metres. He only has to police it. Standing with the ref is no guarantee that we are on side. But, from the picture, a lot worse than that goes unpenalised. Manly and Storm, in particular, seem to be able to surround the dummy half in the play the ball and get away with it.

It actually comes down to the referees. That was the big complaint during Origin 2. The referees only ran back 6-7m each tackle and the players weren't offside because they were behind the ref.

If the ref calls offside while they are behind him it doesn't matter if they're not back the 10, it's the refs fault for not being back the 10.

Refs have been horrible on this all year. I remember the Dogs/Parra game a few weeks back. The Dogs were running back 11m each tackle while Parra were running back 8m each tackle. The ref was on the 10m each time but wouldn't penalise the players for it.

its bad enough when teams are not getting penalised for indiscretions, but to penalize teams for nothing is another kettle of fish.

im sure if manly held onto the ball that nothing would have come of it. manly had just received a penalty hence why they were taking the tap, and lost the ball 1st tackle, a convenient out for the ref to call offside.

They are closer than 10 in that picture, so fair enough call.

That said, refs should be getting back 10 themselves as a marker of where they want players, and so they can call it properly themselves.

They are at least 10 if not 11 metres back from the guy playing the ball

They need the linesman to call it because refs rarely see it.

What an absolute joke indeed - The ref was probably stupid enough to argue they had not received sufficient advantage.

Referees in Rugby League are more a laughing stock now than ever.

They want respect from players, they need to police the rules and not be walked all over by certain players. Some of the senior players in our game have no regard for referees because they have shown they are weak.

Bin people. Send them off. Whatever. Earn some respect. Enforce the rules and the players will eventually listen!

You must be crossed-eyed if you think they are closer than 10 meters, the closest one is Williams, and he is well outside 10 meters, the rest are 11 meters for sure.

Yes, on second look on a bigger screen, they are back 10 (or a little more), my bad.

The touch judge is pretty well spot on back 10 and they are all well behind him.

Why cant the refs stand back 10m for the players ffs? That way the players know how far to stand back.

If they dont make the refs establish where 10m is, then they can call offside when ever they want to suit their needs. Stupid rules geared for refs to throw games!

Also in the above photo the boys are well & truly onside!

most penalties are just made on the fly, how many penalties for strips when the player just flat out lost it? at least sometimes rulings get overturned when the video ref has a look at it.

My beef is tackled players who then walk several metres forward to play the ball.

Or the ones that step sideways to get the markers not square or take them out of play. Never see a penalty for not playing the ball on the mark or the old Willie Willie with the foot call, the just roll it like touch football.

That one annoys me too, a player is tackled and moves way off the mark to play the ball and the defence is meant to move with them? happens every week, and all it would take to fix it would be a ref blowing his whistle, don't even call a penalty (which, it is technically) just tell them to go back to the mark and play it again..... a few slow plays of the ball would stop guys doing it pretty quick.

Thats why the ref should set where 10m is....
