Good side. If NSW can contain Smith & Inglis they will win.

Not as bad as having Josh Morris on the bench lol

Idris will clearly play in the backrow going by that bench. Lyon at 6 is a good move IMO but fck Gidley

Glad to see Gallen didn't get a start. Very smart. Bit surpised to see Jennings didn't get a gig. Idris on the bench is a bit of a surprise. Good on him though!

What's the deal with putting Cooper in after saying they weren't going to even look at him after dogging the City Vs Country(but playing for The Merge next night).good to see they stand by there word??

Lyon is a fail @ the 6,played there b4 and done sweet f'all and idris on the bench is a waste of bench space should have put him in the starting side or not at all and don't get me started on Gidley he is nothing but a fail no matter where he plays. 4 yrs in a row Gidley has been there and captain, and looky looky we lost 4 yrs straight......enough said!!!

NSW Selctors = FAIL FAIL FAIL AGAIN!!!!

i hope we can win i really do but come on give us a team we can be comfortable with. Hope the Doggie boys go well too!!!

It's a poor side. Jamie Lyon has failed before at #6. He just simply isn't a half. I know that Carney hasn't been setting the world on fire the last few games, but surely a specialist half of his ability should have been picked at 5/8 - especially given how quick he gelled with Kimmorley in the Country side. Lyon just can't match Thurston and Lockyer for creativity or poise. You need a specialist and we needed someone like Carney to play a key role.

The other howler is playing Hayne on the wing. Why would you chain your best weapon on the wing. It's a freakin joke! Nothing against Gids, but the fact of the matter is that Hayne sh!tes all over him at fullback. Gids should be on the bench Hayne to full back and Jama to wing.

But I hate, hate hate, having Lyon at 5/8. That podgy lil' fat thing is so overrated. He is going to be absolutely lost at 5/8 and our attack is going to be blunt. p!ss him off ffs!!!

Idris bolts onto NSW Origin bench

Canterbury teenager Jamal Idris will make his State of Origin debut after a series of powerhouse performances won him a spot on the NSW bench for game one against Queensland on May 26.

The giant 19-year-old Bulldog is the bolter in the Blues side and won his spot after a physical tussle with Parramatta's Timana Tahu a fortnight ago and then a powerful display for Country in the Origin trial against City.

Dual international Tahu has capped a stunning return to rugby league with a call-up to the side in the contentious right centre position.

Tahu, who returned to play for Parramatta after two seasons with the NSW Waratahs and Wallabies, will play his first Origin game since 2006.

Selectors have moved him from his usual left side to the right, where he will have the huge task of containing Maroons champion Greg Inglis.

As expected, Manly co-captain Jamie Lyon has been named at five-eighth for the ANZ Stadium clash despite playing in his preferred position of centre with the Sea Eagles.

Despite the selectors declaring they would stay loyal to the players who delivered the Blues a 28-16 victory in game three at Suncorp Stadium last year, they have made seven changes to that side.

Gone are centres Michael Jennings and Josh Morris, five-eighth Trent Barrett, prop Justin Poore and interchange forward Glenn Stewart, while winger David Williams (shoulder) and utility Craig Wing (Japanese rugby union) are unavailable.

There was also no room for Cronulla Test forward Paul Gallen or bad boys Greg Bird, Todd Carney and Willie Mason.

Kurt Gidley has seen off the challenge of winger Jarryd Hayne to retain the fullback position and the captaincy of the side, which is charged with ending a record four years of Queensland dominance in the series.

St George Illawarra centre Matt Cooper will play on the left alongside tryscoring clubmate Brett Morris, while veteran halfback Brett Kimmorley will form another club combination with Canterbury hooker Michael Ennis.

Test props Michael Weyman and Josh Perry join the entire back row from game three last year in Ben Creagh, Trent Waterhouse and Anthony Watmough.

In-form Penrith lock Luke Lewis fills the bench utility position, with Canberra giant Tom Learoyd-Lahrs to play his second Origin game and Melbourne's Brett White rounding out the interchange players.

Team: Kurt Gidley (capt), Brett Morris, Matt Cooper, Timana Tahu, Jarryd Hayne, Jamie Lyon, Brett Kimmorley, Michael Weyman, Michael Ennis, Josh Perry, Trent Waterhouse, Ben Creagh, Anthony Watmough. Interchange: Jamal Idris, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, Luke Lewis, Brett White.

Congrats to Jamal, he definitely has the ability to make an impact.

Nice side.

I don't think the starting roster should be focused on so bluntly, I'm sure they will make changes during the match.

Three centres? Whatever happend to a specialist 5/8? Theyve lost it again, Barrett/Kimmorely would of been better.

Barba can cover a number of positions, Idris isn't as versatile.

The team has 4 centres, we don't need that much.
as in they will put him in the 2nd row close to the centres not as in the way he plays
