Watching Gillett break down when thinking about how bad this could have been was tough to watch.
Also not knowing his neck was broken does not make him an idiot. I know a guy who flipped a quad and landed badly. He got up and walked away albeit he was a bit sore. It is typical behavior to assume you are ok if the pain isn't extremely bad or whatever.
Anyway this guy ended up going to the doc when his neck did not feel better after a few days, it just continued to have this ache. The doctor couldn't believe he was walking around with the break he had and told him he was at a very high risk of causing permanent damage. He was in a neck brace for like half a year after that.
