From the Mole in today's RLW

Bets Off For Brett

Brett Stewart may have agreed to a rich new four year deal with Manly - but the NRL is is refusing to register the contract. The Sea Eagles are way over their salary cap - to the tune of $400,000 I am being told - and salary cap auditor Ian Schubert won't ratify Stewarts contract until they bring their finances back to a more acceptable level.
If anyone has RLW this week can they confirm this story? I'd have thought if over they'd be fined or something?

I wonder how the books looked last year when they won the premiership?

From the sounds of that they aren't over yet because the contract starts next year. I am sure Manly are culling someone to make room for this.

Still can't fathom a 4 year deal for him.

good player when he is on but injuries are a worry.

He refused to sign a 3 year deal or less, the backlash would have been huge from the fans and probably his brother if the club didn't come up with the deal he wanted.

Brent 'socks down knees up' Kite isn't a big loss, imo.

They will be very light in the forwards next season...

T-Rex, Kite gone..

even King is getting on a bit....

at least they still have their superstar halves though :grinning:

Their forwards are terrible, the halves cannot do anything behind them.

Probably fine considering their stars like Hopoate, Cherry-Evans and Foran would have been on scrub contracts.

They'll just have to cull prior to it being registered. No big deal.
