Dearly missed ... Manly's regular fullback Brett Stewart. Photograph: Sam Ruttyn / The Daily Telegraph
MANLY are considering signing a back-up fullback for the remainder of the season.
The Sea Eagles are battling, with Brett Stewart out with a serious knee injury and not back until round 18.

Winger Michael Robertson has filled in well but admits himself he is a winger, not a fullback.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal four players being mentioned as potential Manly recruits - Shannon McDonnell or Shannon Gallant from Wests Tigers along with Brent Crisp from the Bulldogs.

Former Newcastle player David Seage - who retired in 2007 because of constant injuries - has also been spoken about.

No player has yet been made an official offer by the club.

Should the player agree to terms over the weekend, Manly may make an announcement as early as Monday.

As ordinary as Robertson has been as a fullback (he is a very good winger) he is still better than those other options and why would you waste any money on anyone else just for the sake of it?

David Seage? Please. The poor kid hasn't played in years and used to have horrible luck with injuries. Plus he wasn't great to begin with.

There is probably no truth to this story but if there was it would be ridiculous.

I think it would help them to have a specialist fullback. They've been really disjointed in attack and it would help them if as many of their players is possible are comfortable in their preferred positions. Robertson was great on the wing, and it's a good idea to try and get him back out there.

I'm wondering if there is more to this story than an injury.

Every other side has backup players that may not be the best but they get by.

In our case Barba and Crisp if Patten is injured (even Morris/Goodwin at a pinch).

In Manly Michael Bani can and has played fullback before. This is why I question the need for Manly to buy a new Fullback.

However what if injury wasn't the reason? They know more than the papers do.

With Stewarts court case and ruling coming up this month (from memory), why would you shop around for an emergency fullback? Hmmm seems strange if you ask me.

Thoughts?

Very cynical thinking, Mr. Invisibale. I like it.

Don't know if I agree with it but it doesn't sound too far fetched. Why does Manly feel they have to BUY a FB? Surely they'd have a second string FB to cover for this?

Maybe they have no faith in Robertson?

I love conspiracy theories!

There are troubles at Manly, that's for sure. From what I heard (from a reliable sauce) All the players are livid that they didn't get their bonus from Delmege for the World Club Final and NRL Grand final they were promised. Not that this has anything to do with what we are talking about of course. :D Apparently thats why they are playing sh!thouse and don't care. This came from none other than Cliffy Lyons. pfft@

If Robertson can play wing I don't understand why Bani isn't at fullback over Robertson.

Sure Bani has had a few games where he caught the dropsies, but he's far from a crap player, and certainly better than someone the likes of Brent Crisp or Seage in my opinion.

In other news - Manly Leagues Club just got sold!

i dont think just a fullback is the answer to manlys problems.

the whole team have a pretty bad attitude to the game at the moment, constant winging, back chatting, poor disipline.
