Help me out. What did you see that was shit enough to be dropped?
He did nothing
Was not interested
Showed no urgency or pride in the jersey
He will be back one day
Hopefully he learns to respect his opportunity and respect the jersey
I support him being dropped to be honest

He needs to get hungry
It’s what it takes to win origin games

Everyone needs to be above their best not far below it

That's the most sensible take I've heard on it, he went looking for the ball last year and seemed a little hungrier.

Some of the narratives of his performance game 1 is a bit ridiculous though, well down of his potential - but I would have thought his series last year and form leading into this years would have given him at least the benefit of the doubt to pull his finger out game 2, especially without there being a stand out left center putting pressure on.

Most of Qlds tries were on his side of the field.
Then there was the mind boggling dumb act leading to a sin bin.
Then there was the lowest performance of all the backline.

2 of the 3 tries were scored on the left, 1 when he was off the field from an intercept.

Family tragedies, brother’s assault charge ‘caught up with Latrell’

It’s been revealed a series of family tragedies may have contributed to Latrell Mitchell’s on-field battles and omission from the NSW team ahead of the second State of Origin game.

Mitchell, 21, played in the Origin opener but was dumped for game two, to be played in Perth on Sunday.

He was labelled by some the best player in the game after a monstrous night out against Wests Tigers in Round 8, but has dropped off steadily since.

Channel 9 on Monday aired a statement from Mitchell’s mother, Patricia, in which she reveals in the past two months the young star has lost two aunties, a cousin, and a great uncle.

“Latrell has been dealing with this the best way he can, but this will effect any young person as you can imagine,” the statement said.

Channel 9 also reports Mitchell’s brother Lionel is due to face court in August charged with assault.

The charge stems from an incident at a pub in April where the family claim Latrell and Lionel were being racially abused before the alleged assault.

“This has really effect Latrell. He has never had to deal with anything like this,” Patricia said.

Channel 9 says the build-up of separate incidents “caught up with Latrell”.

Mitchell didn’t travel with the NSW team back to Sydney after their game one loss at Suncorp Stadium.

Instead he went home to Taree to spend time with family, and it was reported the Roosters did not know about it, although the club denied that.

Mitchell is also undergoing a change of management and media conjecture around his NRL future, despite being contracted to the Chooks until 2021.

Suddenly his form makes a lot more sense. He lost 4 relatives in 2 months, as well as having his brother charged with assault.

That’s enough to make any player distracted.

Wow ... that's a tough run for anyone.

Needs to take some time away from the game to be with his family and work on grieving. Clearly his minds not on football at the moment, and it'd be unfair to have high expectations on him at this time.

I think if he didn’t have the off field distractions in his life affecting his mental attitudes then yes, his past brilliance would have been enough to hold his spot.

Unfortunately for Latrell it’s do or die, and he hasn’t shown any signs of resilience to overcome his distractions.

He didn’t respect the jersey or the opportunity he has playing at that level.
It’s deeper than just having an off night, it was all attitude and effort that let Latrell down in origin 1

With the series on the line, I can see why brad had little faith in Latrell giving his best in game 2.

I truely think Latrell will be back in origin one day.
I hope this is the wake up call the kid needs to appreciate the opportunities he has and I hope he learns the world is bigger than Latrell
The team is bigger than Latrell

The only baffling selection from brad is the omission of Morris
He was one of the blues best
I really don’t understand why he was dropped?

Roosters are gonna push him out they are all business they don’t give a fuck about welfare , can see it happening if the media hype surrounds him. I’d take him in a heart beat he needs the family
Club maybe he just needs a little bit of the madness to come back

My cousins Nathan and Michael played a round of golf with him…….I’m happy to report his golf game is unaffected.

Yeah but instead people have to judge the kid, criticise him, make him a scapegoat and write him off when he's still only 22.

I hate the world we live in where one bad game can make it seem like the end of the world and that person should have their character assassinated. I agree his effort wasn't what it should be in game 1 but the same could be said for several others.

But if it's Nathan Cleary who did just as little as Latrell in Game 1, then not a word is said and he's first one picked every Origin regardless of club form or form in Origin.

Yup. Best thing for Latrell, best thing for NSW going forward (no-one is safe if you play like crap blah, blah).

Freddy's other decisions (Wighton at centre, no FRF on the bench, a specialist left 2RF on bench when Cordner plays 80min...) are odd. Not sure about Trbo at centre either, but he had to fit in somewhere. Hopefully Tariq continues his smash-the-kicker mentality and irons out DCE/Ponga/Munster/Hunt

You've got it back to front, IMO. Life is bigger than football.

From what I saw on Sunday, he's done pretty well in putting his issues behind him and looks focused again.....dropping him after one bad performance amidst all those family dramas was a major knee jerk reaction IMO..... NSW will be less dangerous without him....Queensland must be laughing.

As a Qlder we are stoked he was dropped. No way we wanted him to come back with a point to prove. Can single handily win a game no doubt. Fitler has lost this series for you with his selections and we thank him for it. Doubt he will be coach for next year after this. Dropping specialist centres for fill ins and then to fly Gasnier over to teach them how to play centre for an Origin...…….just crazy shite!

I still don't think he's right. Gets involved if the ball is passed to him, but still seems unenthused (and that's understandable given his situation).

If I'm the Roosters, give him a month off to grieve and spend time with his family away from footy on full pay.

They've got BMoz coming back and backs coming out their arse, so can afford to be without Latrell.

Then bring him back as it's getting towards the finals series, refreshed, renewed, and ready to rip in.

Only time will tell, and no one has a crystal ball
Freddy has to make a call
And he made the one he believed is best for the team

Latrell played ok against our team, so what, origin is a different beast all together

Good luck to him, I hope he gets back to his best and gets his spot back in the team one day

For now, he is out, and I agree with the choice
You don’t,
You do you, I’ll do me
