Here’s the part of the story concerning Klemmer - sounds like media dart throwing:

Former Test prop David Klemmer has emerged as an unsuspecting chess piece in the Wests Tigers $4 million pursuit of Jarome Luai.

As the Wests Tigers prepare to launch a club-defining bid for the Penrith premiership-winner, it can be revealed that Klemmer has been floated to rival clubs in an attempt to remove his $750,000-a-year contract from the club’s salary cap. It’s understood neither Klemmer or his agent were aware of any attempts to offer the 29-year-old to rival clubs and that the passing of Klemmer’s name to potential suitors was made by a third party unrelated to the front-rower.

Klemmer is contracted at the Wests Tigers through until 2026, with Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall rubber-stamping the deal for his move from Newcastle less than 12-months ago. The former NSW State of Origin prop played 24-games for the Wests Tigers last season - the most number of games he’s played in one season since his debut year of 2013.

I think Klemmer would still add something to our pack. Don’t like the way he left us and a few things he said. We need props though
True but might be angry because we screwed him a bit too

It was a messy exit for both. At his prime he was a great player for us. We haven’t had a first carry prop that makes 150m a game since he left. Still can’t believe we let him go and got nothing in return at all. Our admin at the time were a fkn disgrace.

When he left, it was after the downfall of Ray Dib.
My understanding was Klemmer was on a 750 a year contract which was huge around that time. HOWEVER, it was extremely lopsided with third party deals that were pulled when Dib got shot.
You may recall that was a reason Dib lasted that long, as he had soem sponsorship ties.
Klemmer was a big example of that. I think he was 550 on cap and 200 in third parties and once that went he got pissed and agitated for a release.
We weren’t in a position to upgrade him on cap (this is the time of the big fuggup where he gambled 10 mil would be cap) so he left when Newcastle came to the party and we got Napa for his money instead.
Also woods getting offloaded would not have helped. They were tight.

Look where? The last place the club looked was in superleague and we almost picked up a washed SST lol. From within? The kids aren't ready and need some experience to help them develop.
There are better options in SL.
Again, remember despite their size they pumped a star studded Tonga pack last month.
