KIERAN Foran is wavering over whether to join the Canterbury Bulldogs.
The Daily Telegraph understands Foran’s management has been given a Canterbury contract but it remains unsigned.
The Warriors are heavily pressuring Foran to re-sign and the New Zealand international has told friends he is finally enjoying his football again in Auckland.
A desire to be closer to his young Sydney-based family will probably deliver Foran to Canterbury in the end.
There are suggestions Foran may wait another fortnight, possibly three weeks, before announcing where he will play next season.
Kieran Foran has yet to confirm where he’ll play next season.
It is understood Foran and his manager, Sam Ayoub, were to meet in Sydney on Sunday night but Ayoub would not comment when contacted.
Foran has always wanted to put “family first” but the Warriors are pushing hard to keep a player they claim has become an instant favourite with fans.
A deep friendship with Bulldogs coach Des Hasler will also affect Foran’s decision. It is understood Foran has verbally agreed to join Canterbury and the financial model of his deal has been discussed. Bulldogs officials hoped Foran would sign over the weekend.
Foran is anxious about the decision, his loyalties changing regularly between the two clubs.
Canterbury must remain exceptionally confident of signing the former Manly premiership-winning five-eighth, who played for New Zealand against Australia on Friday night, given Josh Reynolds’ decision to leave for Wests Tigers.
Kieran Foran celebrates the Warriors’ Round 9 win over the Roosters.
The Warriors, though, have embraced Foran, who feels at home within the club, where he is away from Sydney’s “distractions”.
He has made a significant impact at the club, helping the Warriors to four wins from his seven games.
Foran has quickly re-established himself as one of rugby league’s premier players, and teammates have credited him with lifting the performances of Shaun Johnson, Issac Luke and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
“There are a few things I need to factor in regarding my children,” Foran said last week.
