Keating will extend his old pals act

KRIS Keating will extend his halves partnership with lifelong mate Josh Reynolds after verbally agreeing to a new two-year deal with Canterbury this week.

But what happens beyond 2013 remains unclear. We've been told Keating's extension contains an option in his favour at the end of next season, indicating the Bulldogs could be eying a big playmaking fish for 2014. While Mitchell Pearce has been continually linked to the cashed-up powerhouse, there's none bigger than Johnathan Thurston.

We'll be gobsmacked if the Bulldogs don't have a bite at convincing Thurston to finish his NRL career where it started.

That would make things interesting, particularly for Reynolds. The fiery five-eighth is also off-contract next year and will be in huge demand should his stellar form hold during the finals.

Reynolds inked a two-year extension after making his NRL debut last June. The deal puts him on decent money in 2013, but Canterbury would have to fork out a lot more to keep him.

Would not have mitchell, has and will do nothing for nsw origin, barely believe he could do anything at the dogs, Thurston would be a good buy like kimmorley style but id rather stick to young guns and bring themthe confidence to be better players. Keating and reynolds are doing fine

There's nothing wrong with a contract option in Kris Keating's favour. If the Bulldogs are still winning games and are in the end of season playoffs with Kris Keating being part of it all then its "Hi Ho Silver Lining" for the club and KK.

IMO Thurston isn't a viable halfback option - he's a 31 year old in 2014 and at the end of his career. Mitchell Pearce on the other hand would be 25 years old in 2014 and a much more matured player.

What we really need is a competent replacement half back for KK, not a bit player with a few talents.

If we are playing like this next year also, why do we need to look for anyone?

What can you say? He's clearly just the social centre of the rugby league world. Everyone's been his friend since childhood, it seems.

I really hope we don't waste money on Thurston, how could we afford him anyway? Better to stick with KK or maybe Pearce.

Stick with the halves we have, two is better than one as they keep eachother in form competing for first grade.

i cant see thurston coming to us as he has stated that he wants this last deal to be a good one for him.pearce is a better value option, and the people that continually bag him ,get a bit of vision, des picks blocks with talent that he can mould such as inu,hes fixed up most of our players ,barba was even very suspect last year, pearce needs hasler and he knows it and he will become a star under hasler its so obvious to me ,if hasler can get guys like keating and jono wright firing pearce is a piece of cake, also people must understand that the cap is going up a fair bit to either 5.5-6.2 million.we will however need some money to upgrade guys like reynolds, finnucane and jackson.plus benny barba maybe before his contract finishes in 2015 upgrade earlier and get him to extend

Making the origin team =/= good player. Says a lot about the quality of halves available for NSW selection if Mitch Pearce is picked. Still dunno how he got picked over Peter Wallace... Anyway either persist with our current halves or get Thurston if we can, no point paying money for another half-back that needs to be "fixed".

Valid point tbh,

Also good incase of injuries

I know you'd rather a 500k quality halfback over 2x $250k players but unless the $500k is actually quality, the 2 player option has it's pros
