Top 30 Guarantees to an 18 year old??
I think more likely he’s been told “no guarantees” and needs to earn his top 30 spot in 2-4 years time = tantrum ……..”I’m taking my boots & footy ball and leaving”.
I remember some boom kid called Karl Filiga or something, a few years ago. What happened to him…..
Was about as good as Aaron Groom Aka the next big thing. But the good folk of this forum have blown their loads over youngsters since then too. Morgan Harper, toomaga are a couple that spring to mind.

In all honesty it seems like the Donkeys have a bit of a history of trying to take advantage of players without professional management. From memory Haas had issues with what was said vs what was delivered after signing between managers. There's probably more that we don't hear about.

Do you know this to be true though?
The NRL is still “investigating“ and went to the trouble of a press release confirming that and at the same time denying what the Donkeys told the media. His lawyer has confirmed he wasn’t given the opportunity to review the contract, same for his agent. What action the NRL takes is the unknown, will they follow form and ignore the Donkeys actions again.

Merkins are saying he’s Dolphin bound. That path is blocked by Milford, Sullivan, Katoa, Nikorima whereas at the Dogs, there is no roadblock for the 7. Probably doesn’t want to leave QLD

This kid blew up a while ago yeh?..sounded to me then like the Broncs didn't do the right things(chicken sanga your taking the piss!)i still think that way, pretty firm in his stance too so he is either a good poker player or legit got shafted..in promises not so much actual contract variances.

Gus obviously is interested and if he was as good as that other lad that debuted for them in 22(and we can teach him to defend better)I'm all for it.

Geez. Hard to believe a Club in this era would act in such an unprofessional matter. Wonder if down the track the NRL will disclose its complete findings.

Brisbane Broncos name $500k transfer fee for teen sensation Karl Oloapu

Wantaway teen superstar Karl Oloapu has got another barrier in his way if he truly wants out of Red Hill, after the Broncos placed a $500,000 transfer fee on the rising star, blocking a proposed move to the Dolphins.

The 18-year-old has been locked in a six-month long battle with the Broncos, seeking a release shortly after signing a three-year-long contract which tied him to the club till 2025.

The Broncos, having lost a bevy of young talent to other clubs, refused to release Oloapu and relations between the pair have cooled from there.

NRL rules prevent clubs from coaxing players out of contracts unless permission is given by their contracted club, but the Broncos believe Oloapu wants out because of a monster contract offer from expansion side the Dolphins.

The Melbourne Storm have already complained to the NRL about the Dolphins’ pursuit of under-contract star Cameron Munster.

Dolphins CEO Terry Reader denied that the NRL’s 17th team had breached contract rules in their pursuit of Oloapu, who was a Redcliffe junior.

“Every club wants to sign quality players and so do we,” he said.

“If they are available and interested we want to talk to them.

“We’ve dealt with unusual circumstances.

“Not many clubs have to sign 34 players in one year, plus train-and-trial players, and put academies together.”

The Broncos rate Oloapu highly and refuse to release him.

“The club has a contract registered for Karl and we won’t be releasing him,” said Broncos recruitment head Simon Scanlan.

“They have asked for a release and it has been denied.

“He will finish school this year and go into our full-time squad in the upcoming pre-season.”

Oloapu’s development contract with the Broncos is worth $60,000, and will be promoted to their top 30 from next year, triggering a significant pay rise for the remainder of his contract.

No transfer fee if the NRL rules the contract invalid.
That aside, isn't it great to see the Donkeys getting local competition for players for a change, bringing the Dolphins into the NRL is worth that alone.

Plus he is a Redcliffe junior as well "apparently". All these players wanting out/questioning the coach/Dolphins in comp now, must effect their ability to call all the shots with Brisbane etc juniors.

If some of the shit I've heard about the Broncos is true, supposedly they had people enticing Barba to leave us. Supposedly he left the all stars game at half time and check into rehab based on a plan Broncos management had cooked up. So they don't play by the rules. I'd hope they eventually face some consequences.
