What a shame , we forked out $500,000 to bring him to the club.
Clint Newton is a moron. He doesn't take on the NRL when he should and lets the RLPA get walked all over time and time again. But then he calls out the clubs for trying to be cautious with a players injury and long term health.
He of all people should preach caution with neck/spine injuries after the Alex Mckinnon injury. How he remains the head of the RLPA is anyone's guess.
Nope, it will be the club he signs with, no way the RLPA is liable. And should something happen to Karl if he returns, the consequences will be the RLPA's to handle. Not the Bulldogs.
No we didn't!What a shame , we forked out $500,000 to bring him to the club.
Wilson, Montoya, Morrin, King, Haywood, Salmon, Tracey brutally targeted. The positive crew are actually the most negative posters on this forumThe game day thread launched into Montoya.
Even King wasn't spared someone had a go at him.
Canterbury Leagues will make that back between 6pm-8pm on Saturday night lmaoWhat a shame , we forked out $500,000 to bring him to the club.

Sounds harsh, but we've washed our hands of the whole situation now. Best of luck to the kidWe put duty of care first and foremost, if we continued on it would be on us and then imagine the outrage.
At the end of the day our medical staff said no, we listened and released him for his safety. Any club willing to listen otherwise takes that risk on.
Think what you will key here is to avoid liability.
More importantly nor are we. I'm sure the RLPA and or NRL have to sign off on any future contracts. Being as the RLPA Look after player welfare, surely this is in their wheelhouseNope, it will be the club he signs with, no way the RLPA is liable.

The RLPA is not a signatory to an NRL contract, just Player, Club and then NRL.More importantly nor are we. I'm sure the RLPA and or NRL have to sign off on any future contracts. Being as the RLPA Look after player welfare, surely this is in their wheelhouse
So it wouldn't be a player welfare issue ?The RLPA is not a signatory to an NRL contract, just Player, Club and then NRL.

Yes, the Club that he signs with has that obligation, no one else.So it wouldn't be a player welfare issue ?

Given that we have sought medical advice for him, and they advised against him even doing contact training wouldn't you think they'd have to be involvedYes, the Club that he signs with has that obligation, no one else.
He may be able to sue the doctors that said he could play, but that's not a given.

We have already supplied the medical advices (there was more than 1) that we relied on to the NRL. Depending on patient confidentiality the potential club could request copies of those advices. Then they sign him at their own risk. Even if they don't/can't, they can't possibly deny knowing that there was a risk.Given that we have sought medical advice for him, and they advised against him even doing contact training wouldn't you think they'd have to be involved
The RLPA were involved in the release process, they know the risks involved. They couldn't plead ignorance. But I agree, anyone that would sign him, should be held accountableWe have already supplied the medical advices (there was more than 1) that we relied on to the NRL. The RLPA may have been involved in the release process, but they almost certainly won't be involved in him signing with another club. They absolutely won't be a signature to the contact with him signing with another club. The RLPA were involved in the release process, they know the risks involved. They couldn't plead ignorance. Being as players pay the RLPA to look after their welfare, wouldn't it be their objective to make sure player safety is paramount ? Let's face it, there is no chance of him signing another NRL contractThe RLPA may have been involved in the release process, but they almost certainly won't be involved in him signing with another club. We don't know what the RLPA's involvement was, probably never will, but it could have been as simple as just supporting the player's right to make his own decision. Whether that decision is right or not may not matter, just that Oloapu should be allowed to make the decision himself.

Who knows that some club won't be desperate enough to take a chance.Being as players pay the RLPA to look after their welfare, wouldn't it be their objective to make sure player safety is paramount ? Let's face it, there is no chance of him signing another NRL contract
