Joash papalii

He is also one of the best footy brains in the game, next to DCE.

And footy brains is what our team lacks the most.

He is slowing down, no doubt. But can take a bomb better than any other FB, can dummy half run like Tedesco and one if the better support players in the middle.

If Shane Flanagan is looking at him when he has Sloane already there, then its obvious there are people out there that see what i see.....

agreed. I would actually shift him to a 6 role, or atleast a ball playing lock. He’s got the brains no doubt, the way he challenged that ref call in our game to prevent a 7 tackle set was sharp, and no doubt a good look in into his footy iq

I'm pretty comfortable Bulldogs management are watching all players closely including development players to correctly calibrate salary offers.
The club has performance data no one else can access including the players themselves, and their managers feeding imaginary stories to the media.
There will always be clubs like Eels, Tigers, Dragons who are prepared to take a risk and offer more than a player's current club, without having the data.
Skelton going to Tigers would be an example.
So if another club is prepared to pay more than what the Bulldogs have offered a player, well I'm trusting the Bulldogs have a better idea what a player is worth.
But based on what I saw this year, Papalii has not yet established himself as the Bulldogs next fullback. The line breaks seemed to evaporate in 2024.
He may try and take on another role, but it's a risk.
I think the real question is after Tracey and Taaffe, who else is coming through to take on the full back role?
It would also be interesting to know what Wilson or even Eli Clark are being offered by other clubs compared with Papalii.
And then to ask who is better value?

I rate Papalii but from what I have seen of him, he lacks strong involvement that's required of a 'Panthers' system fullback. He just sits back and picks his moments. Would be an asset to another club that can get away with that input from a FB.
Sounds like Latrell

Not convinced with Papalii. He has had plenty of time in NSW Cup to establish himself but hasn't done so. Has good moments but not enough to cement an NRL spot. I think he has lost a bit of pace and reminds me of Anthony Milford

We definitely need much more from our full back going forward after Tracey and not sure that player is currently at the club

If we are letting Papalii go we must be on the lookout for an outstanding young fullback prospect

Yeah i liked him last year but seems to have gone off the boil a bit.. i'd love to keep him as I think he could be something but maybe he needs a fresh start.. maybe we could swap him for a middle with someone

Talented player, but his lack of involvement on what is happening in the game is of concern.

He looked really good in Flegg. Definitely has potential just needs a bit more time playing against men
These players don't want to be patient and trust the system. They want everything now. If he goes to Parra who is he going to play fullback in front off?

Meh been watching him closely for 2 years haven't seen him dominate at nsw cup level.

I think we are back to where we keep who we want to keep.

Doesn't mean that Gus doesn't make mistakes in who he keeps & who he lets go though.

With ball in hand he is a try assist machine... Rather he is to small in defence. Considering he is only 19, one would think he will get bigger, stronger and better.

Club would be stupid to release him considering we dont have any FB's coming through besides Cochrane.

He is 19 and should still be playing Flegg but playing Cup... He would absolutely make a mockery of flegg and everyone would be tossing over him.

Give him 2 years and he will be a first grade fullback.
