Joash Papalii and Jordan Samrani

So that’s 2 young talented players gone in (Joash & Alamoti) from the club within 12months!

The wraps & achievements both players copped in the Jr grades was glowing.. yet the club didn’t persist with them…why?

What will happen to this Mitchell Woods then if he has an average season at Belmore… will he be shown the door as well?

Semrani I’m not too fussed about as he was an import from the Sharks, but the ones that have come thru the Jr’s and done well, surely we need to be a little more patient with them & not allow them to leave like we’ve recently done with Alamoti and now Joash

Just my thoughts…
We’re not going to be able to keep them all, that’s just the business side of the game. So long as we keep the guys progressing at a high rate and look likely (think Woods, Underhill, Sua etc.) then that’s all we can ask for.

Are we making room for someone or some players?

Replaced Averilli and Alomoti with a better centre pairing, but still not sure what Alomotis ceiling is. Papali'i didn't kick on this year and not sure that Samrani had a future as a centre. Still depth in the outside backs is a concern, Tracey is a decent fullback that is all and Taffe plays second fiddle. It will be interesting to see who else might play fullback in NSW Cup next year. Centre is also lite on for depth with Kiraz a winger being first choice back up to Crighton and Xerri. Again next years NSW Cup centre pairing will be interesting and I am still not sold on Eli Clarke either. We will find out next year who of this year's Jersey Flegg side gets a crack at NSW Cup and who among them is an outside back.

People going on about this already like we told Paps and Samrani to fuck off. There's every chance they just saw impediments in their path to the NRL here that don't exist at Parra. Whoever is managing them could've funneled them towards a club where they thought their clients had a better chance of selection. Perhaps Parra are cashed up and threw desperate money at these guys based on potential. They reputedly were trying to scalp Wilson too.

It's not yet end of the world. If we emulate this season next year there's more reason that good players will be attracted to join us. And we've shown recently that we can pick up under rated players and get good results with them. So I'll go ahead and not slash my wrists about two youngsters leaving. At least until the decision bites us. If Parra promote them both ahead of next season and they tear our defence to shreds, I'll get pissed off then. If not, I'll just hope we keep improving on the huge leap we made to go from cellar dwellers to a top 8 team largely by recruiting decent players with great work ethic and team spirit.

Sitili can play centre as a back up, Tracey will improve with an offseason which he didnt have this year, Eli Clarke is meh

Woods was signed for 5 years or something this year wasn’t he? Sure contracts don’t mean much these days, but it shows how much faith they have in him. I assume Papalii and Samrani were off contract so it’s a bit different.
They were contracted for next year

Nah man, I'd hope we did say to them there's no future for them here otherwise we're doing a bad job of identifying talent

Papali'is dad was pushing him out the door for a first grade oppurtunity which he didnt see here with Taffe and Tracey, he went to Eels to challenge Iongi from Penrith for the number 1

If Magic Burton is right about them still both having a year to run, then we did release them. If not we have a case to argue that Parra have broken rules in signing them prior to the negotiation deadline.

I'm going to have some faith in the system we're developing.

Shame we didn't get to see the best of Papalii this year due to long term injury. I thought he had potential to take over from Tracey actually because from many NSW Cup highlights it looked like he could have a better passing game and was just as quick as Tracey. There was an article this year about his expectations to make our bench this season. Didn't pan out so obviously he saw more opportunity at the Eels with Gutho leaving. He could turn out to be the Eels own version of Faalogo to bring on late and get some spark.

I'm surprised at Samrani leaving also because from multiple training videos he was really tight with the rest of our boys. He probably felt down in the pecking order with us after the signing of Montoya and Clark already in front of him

So in the last 12 months in terms of outside backs, we've let go at least:

1. Paul Alamoti
2. Jake Averillo
3. Jeral Skelton
4. Joash Papalii
5. Jordan Samrani
6. Hayze Perham (off contract)
7. Jayden Okunbor
8. Declan Casey
9. Reece Hoffman
10. Braidon Burns

And possibly:
11. Josh Addo-Carr

Admittedly, half of those were making up the numbers and we were right to get rid of, but we've gone from an overabundance of outside backs to what is starting to look like a major deficiency. Unless we have a few more signings, I'm a bit concerned depth-wise.

Edited: Added leaving players 7-10 (although they were good losses and that's why I initially forgot them).
Btw Reece Hoffman retired a couple of months ago, we didn't let him go.

Joash hasn't kicked on to be fair, even at his age he wasn't showing enough in reserves.

When he played he did kill it to be fair... just didnt get enough time on field this year but his defence was atrocious due to size.

Joash is another Alamoti... will take a few years to hit his straps whilst he wants regular NRL game time now!

Good luck to the kid and his family.

Will be interesting to see who the club has ear marked as a long term replacement.

Outside of JAC not one of those players makes out best 17 so what exactly are you complaining about? Look at our record when those guys were here? The ones at the club have done a great job and our juniors coming up look good although they are probably at least another year away

Out of those players I would of liked to have kept Skelton would of been cheap to keep and good centre/winger back up. But Averillo is the best on that list.
