Good comment mate, and not because you agree with my thoughts, you raise a lot of good points especially around his lateral defence and how that changes in the 6 role ..

Here’s the thing, no one can deny we’ve had a half’s issue for a long time.

Everyone’s been screaming out for the club to go buy an elite 7, which there aren’t any available … I don’t believe we need to buy, I believe we already have the talent.

What’s wrong with our half’s partners being 6 Averillo - 7 Burton?

No one can deny Averillo’s running, step, and passing game is very good, give him the 6 role and a license to run roam play eyes up footy and use his skills. .. do what Bellamy does with his 6, get him around the big blokes supporting the offloads, he’d score a truck load of try’s for us and keep working with him on how to set up other players and his defence.

Yes Burton needs some 7’s coaching, but he already has the boot and the running game, get him on the videos studying Cronk, Hynes, Reynolds and their organisational management skills and passing, then get him on the park day after day week after week practising his short falls ..

Bring in a specialist half’s coach and instead of buying elite go old school and produce our own.

Averillo’s 22 - Burton 23 … they could be our half’s pairing for years to come, let them mature into those roles keep improving them and it will repay us 10 fold .. go back to improving players, not buying them.

In the mean time we work on the long game with Oloapu as a contingency plan and at worst a great 13 …
Yep, agree.

And this year gives us the perfect time to try that out and we can then take our time to ease Karl O into the team

With Xerri and Chrichton coming next year, this could be Jakes last shot at nailing a starting spot, otherwise he will be a bench player or forced out of the club for an opportunity elsewhere

If he is good enough, he will take the opportunity, if not, he probably won't be in our long term plans

Plus by moving Jake to 6, gives an opening to get Skelton into the side to see what he is capable of

Even though we want to win every game, I think this year is also about seeing what players are going to play a part in our resurgence over the next couple of years. That's why Skelton needs an opportunity as well, and he is getting closer

Exactly mate, it makes complete sense and all the pieces fit nicely, just hoping CC sees it this way & gives him his shot.

The way he was chucked from position to position, no stable system and coach hasn’t been ideal for his development whats so ever. See him being our 14 eventually, I just question what was seen in Perham compared to Averillo surely keeping him at fullback would’ve been the way to go into this season.
Melbourne and Bellamy would do a good job with him I bet.

This will be a controversial call, but I thought Avo was one of our best last weekend . I am not sure why Ciraldo swooped in and took him away from fullback. Thought he was a key in igniting our attack toward the end last year. I know the retoric was that he isn't a good talker or organiser at the back. But I must say our defence is leaking more points now than we did at the back of last year. Might be time to move him back. Avo has improved defensibly as a centre this year, but I feel his best position is at fullback

I like the points you have brought up and I don't think we have anything to lose by trying Avo at 6

Contrary to popular opinion I think his one on one defence has been pretty good this year, when attackers are running straight at him. A couple of times this year he has had bigger players trying to trample him and (to my suprise) he usually brings them down. BUT.....it's when he has to defend laterally and has numbers coming at him etc he gets caught out arm grabbing and he doesn't have that aggression to make it personal and not let his opposite get the better of him

Defending at 6 it would be more direct traffic running at him (which I think he could handle) plus he would have forwards either side of him

Attack wise he would definitely pose more threat than Flanno and could really add something to the team attack wise if he gets his hands on the ball more

I definitely want to see Karl O get his chance but we have to remember the kid is only 18 and ideally he will start to get short spurts off the bench as part of his education without having any major responsibility thrust on him. I trust CC and Gus to know when the time is right to blood him even though most of us want him in the team yesterday:grinning:

In the meantime I would definitely prefer to see Avo at 6 instead of Reynolds
No.6 going forward will be easier to work out after Dragons game.

Once upon a time in a game very different players showed the club that they were good and earnt a spot, now the club moves players everywhere hoping they play good!

With the accompanying excuses why this. Why that.

I know, right. Unfortunately we are accustomed to being such a crap team that we have to swap positions and prod underperforming players in the hope that they will come good or at least show us something

At least now with Xerri and Chrichton coming in the backs next year we will have more quality (regardless of what position the play in the back 5) and so some of the plodders will be pushed down the list (or possibly out of the club)

It's up to our players this year to show and prove what they have got and that they deserve a spot in our squad

We only want the cream rising to the top now and and only want players showing the skill, desperation and determination to to succeed

Enough of this mediocre crap we have had to sit through

I really can't see why everyone is soo hard on our backs???? They have been carrying the forwards all season so far. Blind Freddie could see that.
