Williams used to have Hodkinson on his inside. Halves play an important role in making early inside defensive decisions that affects what the outside backs do.I'm pretty sure Williams' defensive position hasn't actually changed. I think he was always one in from left centre. I could be wrong though.
I definitely agree though that Hodkinson changing sides has definitely contributed to our poor defense on the left side. As well as Morris not being there of course.
I remember Andrew Johns saying that TRex might struggle a little with this, which would ultimately impact the entire bacline defence; a kind of flow-on.
T Rex is a great defender when he doesn't have to make too many decisions or slide too much.
