Canterbury captain Josh Jackson has leapt to the defence of teammate Jack Hetherington in staunchly claiming the latter is “not a thug”.
Hetherington is poised to return from his seventh suspension this week. He has still only played 38 NRL games across three different clubs since 2018.
In total he has spent a collective 17 weeks suspended as a result of various charges, the vast majority of which are careless high tackles.
His latest ban was two weeks for a high tackle on Wests Tigers forward Alex Twal. Earlier this year he was banned for five weeks for a shocking one on Val Holmes.
On Monday, Jackson was asked by a journalist how big an inclusion Hetherington will be for Sunday’s game against Manly.

“He’s a massive inclusion for us. He’s a fantastic player, Jack,” Jackson said.
“You just know what you’re going to get from him every week.
“In terms of his suspensions, people think he’s a bit of a thug, but he isn’t. If you go back and look at his suspensions they’ve all been through technique.
“It’s not like he’s going out there to try hurt people, and I think his loading has really hurt him as well.

“He’s really important to us and how we play.”
Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett has also defended his fiery prop on multiple occasions this year.
Barrett recently fired a shot at the NRL referees for allegedly having bias against Hetherington.
“If you go through the game there was probably six or seven other ones like that which didn’t get pulled up, but because his name is Jack Hetherington (he gets penalised),” Barrett said.
“You can’t tell me the referees don’t have their name in the back of their mind every time he is involved in a tackle and the crowd get behind it as well.”

This is why I admire clubs like the Rooters. They wouldn't fuck about with this crap, they would have sacked him already or quietly let him sign with a loser club... like the Dogs for example.

the same roosters that have JWH and Radley on their books?
They had Morley too, but even they would have got rid of Hetherington long ago, or most likely, not have gone near him.

if he plays like that 5 years ago he barely has a problem. The game has a real issue with people milking at the moment, granted he needs to work on his technique but the crusher tackles and love taps above the shoulders are getting milked almost every time. Would love to see the nrl make a rule where if you stay down and hold your face or neck you have to leave the field for a minimum of 10 minutes like the HIA

jack will always be treated unfairly on the field for minor infringements now past offences have ensured he will be treated differently by the referees, as to how they would treat other players for same offence

guilty by reputation rather than of the offence, hes a marked man by the nrl and the referees, he doesn't fit the nrl gently gently approach to the game anymore

He's not a thug but he has a horrible defensive technique which leads to high shots. He also plays too many minutes and when he's fatigued he sticks an arm out.

He's just not a very good prop with the ball in hand either..

His technique is the problem, but the effort is always there, he gets in trouble for trying to defend with passion. Will always be a target for the corrupt officials.

What effort? He does nothing for 2 sets and then shoots out of the line and hits someone high lol.

Didn't I read somewhere on here he was in top 10 fastest players?
Can we turn Hetherington into a winger?
