News GLORIA

You've lost an Ex and a good friend because of sexual abuse? I'm having a hard time understanding the context of your post there.
Prior sexual abuse led to compromised choices, which led to being sexually abused and murdered.

Haven't read the article. Might be a beat up :grinning: but still lol

I read the article WD. It was more mainly due to the intensity of Jones’s approach to training and game. Jones expected professionalism commitment in a code that was played by amateurs at the time. Ella got married right after the Grand Slam Tour and he was thinking of his future and the need for financial stability. He actually said if they did offer 1 million bucks he would’ve stayed and played. Which is actually a lot of money those days!

At the end of the successful tour he stayed for three months and worked for Rothmans. on his return he was offered a contract by St George and the Rabbitohs but declined. In the end he retired from rugby. But made a comeback in 1989 to help Randwick win the grand final.

As interest rates hit 18% in that same year. He ended up playing rugby in Italy for Milan. It was only supposed to be for one season but he actually stayed for four. Although rugby was still officially amateur, he was well paid while he was there.

Ultimately, he said Jones was not his type of coach. However, he did not retire because of him, but his coaching approach did make it easier for him to make the call to end his international career.

Thanks for that summation 95.

Thought headline etc was gonna be a beat up but still, by the sounds of it, he wasn't exactly a huge AJ fan. Fair enough not many were/are in the long run of ol' chaff bag/sock down throat guy.

Just a note on Jone’s coaching. His former player, whom he coached in Manly‘s first ever premiership win and in the Wallabies, and happens to be a long time critic of Jones, Peter Fitzsimmons, still praises his coaching ability. He said Jones used to get to training before the players and leave after the players. He would be thoroughly prepared. He would identify players weaknesses and look to develop and improve them. In the areas that he was not so proficient, such as scrummaging, he’d bring in expert coaches to work with the team. He constantly worked on the basic skills of the game.

Hence Australia got a golden era of rugby. They played a game where they ran the ball. It truly was the running game, and it was great to watch. His record was pretty impressive. He coached the Aussies for 4 years, with 86 wins out of 102 matches, which included 23 wins out of 30 Tests. (Four of those losses were just by a point) Out of those wins was a Bledisloe Cup triumph and a Grand Slam. I must add too, that a core group of players that he brought into the Wallabies ended up winning the World Cup in 1991.
