Sure there's a thread for this but fckd if I could go find it. Plus I'm a bit smashed at the moment so here we are...

Just got back from seeing Pearl Jam, Pixies and Cosmic Psychos at Homebush. Seen all 3 of these before so know what I'm getting.

Thoughts.
Psychos - has me baffled how these guys are still alive. Same same as 30 years ago. Same vibe, just fewer beers hanging off the Prince Albert. Big shoutout to their wines - if u like wine and good merch including rare vinyl's (yes its a bit weird), google em up.

Pixies - miss Kim but Emma was ok - same same as 30 years ago. Just no trips to go with the gig.

Pearl Jam - 30 years since I've seen them. Just had this feeling they sold out and didn't represent what they did back in the day. Yeah, Eddie telling stories etc but when they did Mike did a searing guitar solo during Black and Eddie started dancing to Jeremy I'm standing there thinking what the fck? Did a slow tempo Go and some other weird shit. Production is up but apart from that the vibe was just totally not what a PJ concert used to be.

I'm looking around at either completely pissed dickheads (shout out to the fckwit near me that when Eddie talked about the dead and badly hurt chicks in Laos screamed out don't worry, I fckd both of them) or fckng instas running in to get photos done for the fave songs and then race off back outside again. Even better, had some chick wander up and ask me which band I played in and how big my cck was (and we all know the answer, no band and bigger than you can imagine). Which made it very funny when it was between songs and my missus is standing next to me. Regardless, between the bad vibe and the weird crowd, just very underwhelmed.

Maybe I'm getting old. Seemed people were there more to be able to say they were there than for the music. And for PJ - seemed they played into it.

Anyone else seen a band after many years and reckon they just ain't the same anymore?

Saw PJ Saturday night.
Thought they sounded great.
Not easy to keep at it after 35 years on the road with families in tow and you’re not 25 and bullet proof (or as full of angst anymore - remember ‘5 against 1’ from ‘Animal’?). Different priorities - Eddie V on Saturday spoke of the need for teenage girls to stop bullying each other so they stop killing themselves, speaking of the fake Insta generation, which is poignant.

Never really liked either CP or Pixies so didn’t care that much. As for other bands - saw GnR two years ago and not the same - can’t hit the high notes and an at peace 60yo Axl Rose isn’t the same as the angry as all get out 30yo version. Saw the Black Crowes too and despite the brothers ongoing issues and many lineup changes they sounded as sharp as ever - when Rich slid into the opening riff of ‘Remedy’ it was 1992 all over again. I’m just happy to still be able to see bands with a legacy in the made by marketing one hit wonder world that is so much of modern music.

Grinspoon are classic example and alot of punk rock bands from the 90/00s

I unfortunately lived in a country area and had stingy parents. I didn't get to see many bands live until my early 20's. Not proud of this and not really a fan, but Lee Kernaghan was the first gig I got to see. And that was just because it was big enough for the area I loved in that you wouldn't not go.

At uni (still in a country area) I saw a few good bands at the UNE bistro. Tiny venue so you were on top of the bands. But I regret that I never put in the effort to get to Sydney for big day outs and the music festivals.

BDOs were the best. Especially at the Hordern. I have the misfortune of being at the Nirvana BDO and never bothered with them. Was cruising the smaller stages. Life's regrets...

Most never would have guessed it would all end very quickly the way it did for Nirvana. I still wonder if we'd have had more incredible albums if Cobain hadn't tapped out.

Was there, Jan ‘92. Cra.
Always caught people out who said they were there by asking what was the first song they and Violent Femmes played…most couldn’t answer pre-Google.

I was with a chick who loved the Falling Joys. So that, Hard Ons, a line, near the old rides area, another hard on, gone for 60 mins. That was it.

Its like the PJ MTV Unplugged. I know the tickets for that were given to a MTV grad to hand out at his Uni and there was 200 in the crowd. Believe at last count 20k people claim they were there.

Over the next 12 months Nirvana went real nuclear and next year sat front and centre main stage thinking I'm not missing the best. Then I found after that all the seriously hot chicks went over to see the hip hop in the main theatre. Story of my fckng life at that point...

I saw PJH in the tops 500 crowd at Coldplay at the Metro in Sydney in early 2001 when no-one knew who they were (when I liked them - not since they went cock rock). I said ‘Oh look, it’s Polly Jean!’ - she gave me a somewhat disapproving look :-).

Lol. Saw Janes Addiction at the Hordern in 91. Right in the middle of Perrys 1st round of serious Harry problems. This gig only had 20 mins of music, the rest of it was spent with Perry punching on with the band, crowd surfers jumping on stage and brawling with security. Remember I was in the middle of the mosh and carrying some chick over the top. She turned, looked me in the eye and it gell'd. Passed her over and thought cool if I catch up with her again.

Couple mins later someone grabs me on the shoulder and its her. Not a word said, off to the bleachers of the Hordern. Between some public jiggy and watching the brawling from a birds eye seat, best gig ever. Those were the days - not the bullshit kids get up to now...

Was a little underwhelmed by Tool last time I saw them.

Still a very good show overall. But didn’t live up to expectations based on previous shows.

Maynard’s voice isn’t all it once was and I just wasn’t that into the Fear Inoculum album. An album full of 10 minute songs seemed like overkill, even for a program band like Tool. And while there were some good ideas behind the songs, they all just descended into jams with the vocalist not present for large parts of the tunes.

My sister had never seen them and was blown away, so still a great show for those who haven’t seen them before, I guess.

Soundgarden weren’t as good the second time around. Still glad I saw them again before Chris Cornell died. Hard to keep up the energy as you get older, I guess.

Saw Devo on their farewell tour last year. I had never seen them back in their heyday, but I had a blast. Very entertaining show.

Gunners were pretty good on their first not in this lifetime tour. Axl was still hitting most of the high notes then, but his voice has really deteriorated since.

Just wasn’t into Pearl Jam enough to justify the price of tickets. Would be keen to see Pixies on their headlining tour next year though.

U and Tool. Match made in heaven. :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

Metallica last time I saw them I was a bit meh. On the other hand Elton John was fucking amazing still to this day. James Brown was awesome at Good Vibes years ago and Boney M (don’t ask me why my missus bought tickets) at the enmore were shockingly bad as expected. However Underworld at the Opera House this year made me so happy raving in the Opera House. I’m seeing The Killers in a couple of weeks and last time I saw them they smashed it.

Boney M?

Why did your missus buy tickets? 8-)

For the older kennelers amongst us who like Neil Diamond, go and see Peter Byrne doing his Hot August Night show at a nearby club.

He is almost as good as the real Diamond.
