I've mentioned this before and here it is again... see how print journo's call us "The Family Club" dripping with sarcasm... I think this needs to be looked at after Castle goes. Of course I want kids and families as Bulldog supporters, but do we have any more claim to such a title compared to the Sharks, Broncos.. Manly etc ? We should get back to calling ourselves Dogs of War and grow our backbone back....

She may be going but the buck stops with Dibb.He chose her to come into role and also signed off on Hasler whilst shafting Mortimer. He also gives us an overated front rower over a superstar fullback as he lets his mate Politis have what he wants.

The family club nickname has nothing to do with attracting kids and families as supporters. We got the name due to all the families involved with the club in the 80's and early 90's such as Hughes, Mortimers, Folkes, Anderson and Moore.

Main point in the article.
Does Ray Dib pull all the leavers at the club, including the football department?

When bullfrog was around I remember the famous stories of him doing basicly all the recruitment, I guess the coach was consulted.

I had assumed that Des was the driving force behind the recruitment & retention.

When board got rid the Cleal, again I thought was a sign by the board to the football department that the board wasn't happy with how recruitment & retention had gone.
I think the article is saying Don is taking more control in that area now and that was probably part of the new agreement that was negotiated.

I'm pretty much 100 per cent sure that Des precious contract prior to this new extension afforded him complete control over the football department...which includes recruitment.

Des had full control but it seems a major condition of his new agreement was that the club would strip those powers back a bit and allow Dib and the board to assume more control.

I'm not sure Dib knows how to steer this ship either. What a clusterfuck! Hahahaha.

Tedesco was a stray bullet which we dodged. Overrated in my opinion. Loves dissing clubs. Not nice.

It's a bullshit article, I do feel dumber for having seen it, it raises some interesting points though, or, just one really.

If we had locked up Foran officially and Castle texted her counterpart in NZ due to not knowing it was done because Dib did it and didn't feel the CEO needed to know....... then Dib needs a slap in the back of the head now, and to be shown the door at the next board elections. A chairman going rouge and feeling the club is their play thing can only be resolved one way, that way.

However, given so much of this article evidently came directly from the writers arse, its hard to say that single piece would be factual so I'll await any evidence that is actually true and go do some puzzles or something to try to exercise my brain and get back the few IQ points lost in reading their work.

'Family club' fractured as Kiwi Raelene Castle resigns as Bulldogs chief executive

Bulldogs boss Raelene Castle gives fullback Brett Morris a hug following an NRL win.

ANALYSIS: When Raelene Castle first began as Canterbury chief executive, everyone wanted to know whether she or Des Hasler would be running the club. Four years later, it is evident neither of them is the top Dog at Belmore.

The New Zealander announced her resignation on Thursday, although she will remain in the role until the end of the season. Soon after the news became official, she tweeted there was "still plenty to achieve" before handing over to her successor. Most notably, the Bulldogs have the challenge of becoming salary cap compliant as they undergo the biggest roster overhaul in their history. However, her role in the process – like that of coach Des Hasler – will continue to diminish.

The 'family club' has become increasingly fractured in recent times, as evidenced by Steve Mortimer's parting from the boardroom. It is about to undergo further change and the end result will chiefly bear the pawprints of chairman Ray Dib.

Castle took over from Todd Greenberg after the latter was promoted to head office. It has become evident that the current Bulldogs chief executive and the former one have fallen out with the respective chairmen. Castle has moved on of her own accord and the fact that she will remain in the post until season's end suggests the pair can continue to work together. Whether that is the case with Greenberg and Grant remains to be seen.

In both cases, the fraying of the relationships between chair and CEO have been laid bare in missives to clubs. Castle, while trying to resolve salary cap headaches of her own, had also been tasked with representing the clubs on the matter as the players' union and the NRL attempt to thrash out a collective bargaining agreement.

She emailed club bosses to complain of a breach of protocol when the players' union met with a select group of chairmen. One of the chairman chiefly responsible for organising the meeting was her own. The popular narrative is that Castle was gone the moment she pressed 'send'. What we know is that, a fortnight later, she has announced "the time is right to look for my next challenge."

It had already become apparent that Castle had been sidelined in matters of retention of recruitment. While she has been involved in every single negotiation since taking over from Greenberg, player managers were increasingly dealing with Dib directly. Hasler - forced to part with some of his most loyal staffers during a power shift at Belmore - was no longer calling the shots. Neither was Castle.

Dib was ultimately responsible for luring Aaron Woods and Kieran Foran to Canterbury, although Hasler's connection to the latter undoubtedly played a role. In the case of Foran, Castle texted Warriors counterpart Jim Doyle to deny reports the playmaker was a done deal at Canterbury, oblivious to the fact Dib had ensured it was so.

The arrival of Woods and Foran will create headaches, welcome and otherwise. There is not yet a salary cap figure for next year, but the Bulldogs have undoubtedly blown it. Castle will have a role to play in the ensuing firesale of players, contracted and otherwise, alongside Dib. How the club emerges from the overhaul will be her legacy. Dib will also be judged on the success of the process when the members go to the ballot box to appoint a board early next year.

Castle has undoubtedly made a positive impression during her time at the helm. The former New Zealand netball boss became the first female club chief executive since Liz Dawson at the Adelaide Rams in 1997-98 and Donna Burke at Cronulla in 1988-89, but quickly earned respect in her own right. There have been many challenges, like the Andrew Fifita and Des Hasler contract negotiations.

She has overseen a competitive side but, like Hasler and Dib, has been criticised for not getting enough bang from buck after falling short of a premiership. However, the fact rival clubs chose her to be one of only four CEOs to represent their interests in salary cap deliberations is a vote of confidence and she could well emerge at a rival club or even achieve her ultimate ambition of running the game in the future.

Perhaps they chose her solely because she was female to be seen as PC.

The salary cap comment might be referring to back-ended contracts which could be the reason why we are trying to dump players. Not sure what happens if we can't offload the players under contract that have been earmarked to go.

I'll guarantee to all that the club has never been on the same page as it now.Whilst castle was the (Boss) on paper, she had her wings clipped a few times for doing ridiculous things without consulting the board. In the end it was her downfall and long time coming. We must give her credit for picking up one of the most lucrative sponsorships in Australia sport (Kia) as for the signing of Woods and Foran,It was left to Dib and Hasler, the board didn't want a bar of Foran after what happened last time with him.In the end,the club has made some great signings and is looking a great shape all round.
