Jamil Hopoate’s rugby league career is in limbo after the former Broncos back-rower pleaded guilty to hitting his partner to the ground before allegedly getting in his car and driving away from the scene.

Hopoate, who has not got a club for 2021, pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault in Port Macquarie court on Tuesday.

The son of NRL cult hero John struck his partner, Shae Beathe, in the car park of the Club Panthers licensed venue in Port Macquarie on December 28 last year.

It came after Hopoate was thrown out for spitting on security after he and Beathe – the mother of his nine-month-old child – became embroiled in an argument.

Beathe reportedly asked Hopoate to leave the club’s poker room and go home but the former Broncos forward bent and threw his partner’s key card to the ground.

Security then intervened, escorting them out of the venue with Hopoate allegedly threatening to “bash” them.

He is then accused of pushing Beathe, striking her with his open palm and knocking her to the ground.

Hopoate then left in his car, leaving an injured Beathe with their child.

She was taken to hospital by police for treatment and Hopoate was pulled over and charged with mid-range drink driving with a blood alcohol reading of 0.095.

The incident is said to have cost Hopoate an opportunity with a Sydney-based NRL side.

The 26-year-old, who was jailed for assault in 2014, will be sentenced in April.

If he behaves like that mid range he needs to give up the drink - whether it’s alcohol or drugs, too many of us have a dark underside that rears its ugly head under the influence. You only have to look at the trail of destruction in the NRL.
I can’t think of a player that has f@caked up not under the influence.

Usually people say the apple falling far from the tree is a bad thing when referring about a father and son.
In this case, Will fell far from the tree (Unlike his brothers) but it's absolutely for the best.
Congrats to Will for being a stand up guy in this family.

Will seems like the only male in his family, not to be an embarrassment to the Hopoate name.

What a piece of work. Should not be allowed anywhere near an NRL field ever again. Like a leopard he will not change his spots, drinking and violence obviously a problem.....

In 2012, Hopoate was sacked by Parramatta due to a string of off-field incidents which included a mid-range drink driving conviction.

In 2014, Hopoate was jailed for one year and given a two-year good behaviour bond after a violent assault on two men at a Sydney pub. Hopoate was later sacked by his club Manly-Warringah over the incident.

In December 2020, Hopoate was charged with domestic violence and drink driving.[

Lucky to even play footy in the first place, him and his mates king hit someone in manly corso on mistaken identity a few years back and stomped on his head while he was unconscious. Trash humans
