For the Bulldogs, it was the game that got away after they blew several opportunities in the second half.

They copped a big setback on the strike of half time when Josh Addo-Carr was knocked out after he copped the hip of Latrell Mitchell in a tackle and things got even harder when Kurtis Morrin was sin-binned for a dangerous tackle.

After an inspired start from both sides it was the Rabbitohs who struck first with two tries in four minutes — one of which was scored by Wighton.

But the Bulldogs hit back after their star-studded left edge combined to set up Matt Burton.

BULLDOGS ‘RUE CHANCES’ AS THEY LET WIN SLIP

It’s impossible to fault the Bulldogs’ effort in their loss to the Rabbitohs but as coach Cameron Ciraldo said afterwards they “need to execute better.”

Costly errors burned the Bulldogs as they finished with a 77 per cent completion rate compared to Souths’ 97 per cent.

Things seemed to get messier in the second half and they failed to take advantage of their good field position. The Bulldogs had 19 tackles in the opposition’s 20 compared to the Rabbitohs’ four tackles but only managed to score one try in the final minute.

Fox League commentator Warren Smith said the Dogs will “rue those chances inside the 20,” while Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach declared it was a game they let slip

“This is the one that got away. When you have a look at it, the amount of ball the Bulldogs have had in the last 20 minutes, it should’ve been good enough to at least get a try to level up the scores,” Roach said with four minutes left on the clock.

“It’ll be the one they looked at as the one that got away.”

Greg Alexander said they “didn’t have the polish,” while Michael Ennis — a former captain of the club — knows this one will hurt.

“They had enormous amounts of possession and enough to win the game. They’ll be disappointed — it was one that certainly slipped away,” he said.

It wasn't the one that got away it was the won that Sutton notched yet another biassed performance that sunk the dogs. Weighton hip drop...nothing, Tass hold down.....just a penaly when it was a clear sin bin. Late hip by Latrell...thats 10 in the bin every day of the week if they are serious about player welfare. The latrell kick where he is bumped by a 3 foot gnome and the ref marches us 60 meters down the field. The cook shepherd the play before they score. I could go on as our fullback got tackled in the air but nothing,,,not even a review by the bunktards. This article is NRL Fox. Those blithering idiots only push their own agenda rather than actually report facts.

Agree mate but do you expect ?

Happens every Good Friday. Lattrell charged today but we don’t even get a penalty.

I do think we made a blunder by not switching the wingers over though. Kiraz nowhere near as good on the left wing.

Also we design of plays to put our left winger in space and Tracey is much faster than Kiraz

Roosters on Friday, the backs need a jiggle, what can Tracy do at Fullback?
Is Kiraz still a centre, does Sexton get a run?
Should of held onto Burns.

Dont rate him as a coach or as a person. Just from what i read abt him. But Jason taylor is normally good at designing attacking moves. Havent seen much signs of that these few rounds. Or may be the players still learning where to run, like preston just stood in the opps defensive line last week and salmon blocking someone on friday.

The players are still learning. You can tell on the field. [emoji23][emoji23]

Souths were very lucky to get away with that win.

It should have been 18-10 to the Bulldogs at half time.

Turning points included;

The penalty for Reed tacking Mitchell in the air was ridiculous and led to a try to Souths.

Jack Wighton should have been penalised for the hip drop.

Mitchell should have been penalised for the hit on Addo-Carr

The hit on Jacob Preston should have been penalised but wasn't.

Plus the professional foul for holding onto the Bulldogs player was also left without a penalty and should have been 10 in the bin.

We did however have chances in the last 10 minutes to win the match.

Its the fist game I've watched in the last 10 years where with 5 minutes to go I genuinely thought we could still win.

The team is building nicely and we are improving week on week.

They will learn from this outing and will be better for it when the team is at full strength.

Go the dogs!

What do you guys think of Hutch at 13, Sexton in the halves? Our halves have had like one try assist between them so it's only a matter of time till we see a switch.

As long as he isn't 7 I'm all for it.

I'd start Curran or Mann there though
