My parents and many older Australians will call is tea. Just like they call dessert "sweets".

A lot of people used to cal their midday mean "dinner". Traditionally a "Sunday dinner" was served at lunchtime/afternoon.
Thanks for the history lesson lol

That's the other thing, they call "Desserts" sweets. It's like... OBVIOUSLY we know it's sweet. It's not like we call dinner "Savory" lol.

Supper was a late night meal after tea/dinner maybe like coffee and a biscuit or two.

Or other ways the word supper might be used in conversation would be as follows
"She's really got the shits!"
"Yeah I know but she won't tell me whatsupperass!"

As a kid, plonk was mostly used by the Italians (Calabrese) to mean port, wine, muscat etc.
My Mums Sicilian and she calls it plonk. She came here when she was 3 though so the word must’ve been getting thrown around back in the mid 50s.

No one else in my family calls it plonk. We call it fkn wine or Vino or beer or piss if it’s just the cousins! My mum is the only one that doesn’t drink. Hence her being derogatory towards wine and piss in general. Been trying to get her drunk since I was 15 ffs!

Edit: is Croydon in your username the Croydon in Syd? I lived in Croydon for a while after Punchy back in the 80s.

Yeah being an Italian growing up in Sydney I always found it hilarious when I’d go to an Aussie mates house and it was always tea regardless of time. Fkn stupid and hilarious at the same time kind cute. Weird ass Aussie’s
I didn't realise you were Italian! , funny how I don't recall ever really using words to distinguish between breakfast, lunch n dinner.
I guess because it was always the focus of the day from waking!
