Just remember (not sure about other manufacturers), but with Canon DSLR bodies do NOT have international warranties. So if you have a problem with a body bought overseas be prepared to pay through the arse to have it fixed.

Lenses are international however.

Tis part the reason I buy all my gear from a Canon Professional Dealer!

If you are going overseas, but it out here and claim back the GST via TRS on wa out (I got back like $230 on the 7D that way).
you can claim **** like that?

yes yes yes!!!! that's what i plan to do. i've done it before with snow gear, a previous camera, etc. you just have to make sure you get to the airport with plenty of time to spare and then you can do it

70-200, have you got the F4 or the F2.8? I've got the F2.8 and I know how you feel. It's an excellent bicep workout :grinning: Spare a thought for the sideline pro shooters at the NRL games using the 4.5kg 800mm primes.. mental!

Yeah... I love my 7D.. When are you buying yours ;) ..

Where it gets absolutely insane, is when you put it in High Speed Continuous mode. Sheesh it can rattle off some shots in a row then.

BTW you can get SLR's into the games pretty easily. ANZ frown upon the use of a 70-200 though.

It's the 2.8 and i'd hate to be one the guys holding those massive dinosaur lenses. ahaha But hey, they'd be getting paid a tonne per photo.
As for me, i'll stock up on lenses and accessories before i upgrade the body aha. So i'll wait til the end of next year or mid 2012 *nods*

Are you going to try and get your 70-200 into ANZ next year? Or wait, have you tried before? Cos that'd be insane if you could.

Hey question, what type of photographer are you? What do you specialise in? Sports photography, yeah?

I can carry it into ANZ with the rest of my gear no problems, but I can't technically use it at ANZ, and if security spot me with it, they might ask to remove the photos, or boot me out. As you know the 70-200 stands out like dogs balls (even moreso with the lens hood on), specially if security are told to look out for large white lenses.

Some of the guards will warn you on entry "is that a telephoto lens, don't use it inside". Others don't even notice it.

I've used it in ANZ, as well as my other lenses, but try not to be seen with the 70-200 just incase security get narky.

I'm an enthusiast/amateur/hobby photographer. I don't shoot professionally, though have the gear too if called upon. As I mainly shoot nature/motorsports/landscape/league all my lenses are gear towards high speed low light. So I've got a 10-20mm f3.5 Sigma, Sigma 24-70 f2.8 DG EX Macro, and Canon 70-200 f2.8 USM. I've also got the old 400D as a backup body, and my latest toy is a Hahnel GigaT Pro Wireless Remote (it's about $100 and bloody brilliant). Allows you to wireless shoot the camera, AND as if that's not cool enough you can program sequences in and have it auto shoot them (e.g change settings on the fly and have it shoot a number of settings at press of button).

I love my toys, and it's one of the good ones :grinning: Mainly useful for night time or tripod mounted shots. :D

Oh snap, i might try my luck next year with my cam aha, and i really dig your set up man. Hopefully i could build up a similar arsenal. I'm leaning towards the whole street/portraiture photography thing.

This thread needs photos, I'll post some up in a bit.

Yeah there are about 800 Fiji photos... editing them will take a while, and I'm somewhat of a "what comes off the camera is the final result" person :grinning:

and yeah I have... I've got a 24inch x 30inch printed and framed from a shot before.

Name of place escapes me though as it was about 5 years ago now...

They reckon the Canon Speedlite 430EX II is a ripper of a flash. About $360 though. Still yet to pickup a flash myself and am looking at that one, but as I don't use a flash much, it's not really a smart purchase for me.

Also have a Google and grab yourself "Understanding the Canon Speedlite 580EX-430EX". It gives an excellent insight intto the workings and modes of flashes, and correct flash usage. Flashes are as simple as a better version of the onboard popup flash. If you are after a simpler flash (non adjustable angle) then grab the Canon Speedlite 270EX for around $200. I'd grab the 430EX and a diffuser to suit though.

Also I've heard the Metz Mecablitz flashes are meant to be okay (and cheap), but never played with one.

We just bought the same camera about a month ago Doga. I still have to play around and learn how to use it properly, but it takes some nice pics. I'm trying to play around and take photos of sprinklers on and trying to get different shots of the water droplets coming out of the sprinkler for my ****ty website. My wife did a short course earlier in the year at one of those adult college things at high schools on weekends so she learned a little about how to use it.

Not sure if I need a flash. Getting it so I can take indoor shots. eg my niece is in a dance play thing on wednesday night. Obviously it will be dark and I would like to take some nice photos.
