Canterbury coach Des Hasler has backed the club's handling of Ben Barba's early season suspension, the under siege fullback giving his injured ankle a good workout in avoiding the media at Sydney Airport.

Not named to play against Brisbane on Thursday night due to the injury, Barba looked in good nick as he bounded up the stairs on Wednesday, desperately trying to avoid being detected by reporters already engaged in an interview.

Hasler said the Dally M medal winner has still not been given the green light to face the Broncos.

The Bulldogs coach spoke out about the circumstances surrounding the club's standing down of Barba in February, after weekend newspaper reports of an alleged assault on a woman the day before Barba was suspended.

A photo was published showing blood coming from a woman's lip.

Hasler confirmed Barba's partner, Ainslie Currie, came to the club to voice concerns regarding the star fullback.

"I'm very comfortable with the procedure that the club has taken," Hasler said.

"Obviously the alleged photo is disturbing but at the same stage the club never has received any complaint or any plaintiff in relation to that allegation.

Asked about Currie's contact with the club, Hasler said: "At the time, when she came to us to speak, she came looking for support.

"I was quite happy with the procedure the club went through."

As for Barba's chances of facing the Broncos, Hasler was keeping his cards close to his chest.

"He hasn't been named, but we'll continue treatment with him.

"He hasn't passed a fitness test."

If he passes a fitness test I would say he is playing.

lol if anyone still thinks he is injured they need a swift uppercut.

This reinforces my belief he won't play for us again.

OK, my hatred for Barba has gone down heaps. It's business time so I want all the best players playing for us come Finals time.

So he has gone to Brisbane with the team because??
They can rule him out injured this week by saying he didnt pass the fitness test, but that wont fly next week.

I could be wrong, but he could have gone up because Currie has moved there already. She is crapping on about Queensland on twitter a fair bit.

Did you miss this part: "Obviously the alleged photo is disturbing but at the same stage the club never has received any complaint or any plaintiff in relation to that allegation."

If you read between the lines, he's playing. Hasler's sly replies pretty much confirmed this.

Yeah, maybe I guess. Would the club be that nice to him? If he has been secretly stood down?
I think he will play, if not tomorrow then next week.

I would rather he didn't play. Poor Lafai.

I highly doubt Des would drop Lafai at this stage of the year with big games coming up. He may've dropped him in the past but not anymore..surely not.
He may play Barba off the bench this week.

I feel very bad for Lafai. I'd love for Inu to move to the wing for him but we know that won't happen at this time of the year and also considering Brown hasn't done anything wrong.

But still, can't deny we're a much stronger side with Barba in it.

This. I'd love him to play a role like in 2010 under Moore. I know what he has done is bad, but the kid can play. Who knows he might feel like he owes us something for giving what he wants. His farewell may be a few hat tricks!
