Our defence was much better under Pay wasn't it?

It's only early days under the new coaching team and maybe they haven't adapted well to the changes?

We looked more resilient under Pay and Georgalis
A few changes to the rules this year hasn’t helped, but some of those tries were certainly soft.

Dean Pay formally walked out on Canterbury on Tuesday, ending his two-and-a-half-year stint as coach of the NRL club. Pay departs halfway through the final year of his contract, with the Bulldogs bottom of the ladder after nine rounds of a season hampered by Covid-19.13 July 2020

6 again didn't start till July did it?

I don't think the defensive issue is exclusive to the Bulldogs.
So far this season it appears that teams either win or get flogged.
Despite our scoeless defeats, we have only had more than 40 points against us and that's this week.

20 years? 20 years ago we were contenders. You would need to go back to 70s to find a shitter defensive team. Probably further back even.
Different days. Stupid Rugby league rules stuffed the word defence.

U can look at the stats. Completion rates comparable. Tackles comparable. Runs comparable. Hell, we had more tackles in the 20. What isn't comparable is meters gained and kick meters. They get bucket more meters and end up kicking short kicks. We get nowhere in our set and half to kick from our 30. Why, when their halves get the ball, we stand off and play 'watch u gunna do'. When our 'halves' (yeah - not sure they can be called that) get the ball, its smash time. Until we can get some respect there, its going to be a rough year.

On another note, remembered one play in the second half, we were running it out from our line and when the 1st receiver got the ball, there were four storm guys already past the line. Bunnies left the 10m early all game, Penrith did the same and so did the storm. No penalties or 6'ers. Doggies - time to get with the program. As long as a number of you go early - no one is going to call it.

Maybe but Melbourne were the masters of slowing the ruck but have adapted to the new rules. We supposedly improved our roster and staff and yet look and perform heaps worse.

At least the last couple of years we lost having a go and committed. The ELEPHANT in the room is how we are now being coached.

Good point about going early in numbers, the better teams are doing it.

Firstly, take Averillo out of the line. He can't read in defense at all. Put him at fullback or out of the team.

Secondly, you can't have Napa, Hethrington and Napa as your middle 3 to start a game. They make no metres and put our team in dangerous territory.

Thirdly, Katoa can't play more than 20 min at a time so don't ask him to do that.
I stopped reading at take Avo out of the team.

Barrett is not the man for the job. I think deep down we all know this, just trying to be nice and fair. But this attitude doesn’t win comps. Not good enough to write off a season after 5 rounds.

This regression from 2020 is diabolical. Someone has to be held accountable

Roster is still pretty much the worse across the 16 teams. Players like hoppa and napa have gotten worse, mere passenger s.

Don't remember an inside the 10 penalty I've seen all year. All the focus is on play the balls so the ref is looking that way - . touchies don't do diddly squat as they don't want to risk there chance at the real ref job. U have a bunker and a moving top down visual every play. Radio in when someone jumps. The better teams are onto this - other are playing catchup.
