That makes no sense, the players you named all earnt any promotions they got by their own efforts. Their commitment to training, quality of play, overall attitude and dedication earned them the right to be picked whenever the opportunity arose. Whether that was through injury, suspension or other factors is completely irrelevant. What is important is what they do once they are given the chance. Some take the opportunity with both hands and prove themselves, others drop the ball (sic) and fall by the wayside.

Go Dogs
But they didnt earn it on merit. Only reason Lewis got a shot was after Pay tried Frawley, JMK, forans injury. He was a last resort...
Smith only got a shot after 17 rounds of continual Montoya fuck ups.
Martin was killing it all year in Nsw cup but never got the call up till.end of the year.
Meaney and okenbur only there because of the last 2 losses .If they were picked on.merit they would have been picked round 1.

Point is Pay doesnt have the balls or foresight to pick juniors on form like most coaches do.

Newcastle's faith in Brown was conditional and transparent.
Brown contract wasn't tenure based but was entirely set on performance and objectives met. Same type of contract Canterbury originally wanted Hasler to sign in 2017.
Brown unlike Pay is a very good development coach and with John's help, he provides high-performance prospective.

Brown's first objective was to clean out the 2016 wooden spoon squad. He achieved this objective by only retaining eight squad players, promoting and signing very good young juniors and signing a few unwanted but useful first grade players. His second objective was to sign an experienced half and forward and finalize the spine by end 2018.
Fair enough, but Im sure pay's objective is to clean out our current squad but it doesn't happen in the space of a year, especially with the cap constraints we have. How's brown a very good development coach? Most of his current squad has been brought in from elsewhere.

The only question is Why ?
If the Bulldogs have a 3-22 season which ultimately leads to player unrest because everyone is generally looking over one’s shoulder......it will look like a ludicrous decision.
History tells us that the Bulldogs will win this weekend.

You guys are getting worse than the Eels.
Coach has team unbeatable for the spoon so you extend the contract of a bloke who got punted from the Eels.
Oh dear.
Write the next two years off and come back in 2021, save yourself the heartache.

The Lewis part is wrong. He wasn’t part of the top 30. The club tried to play him but the NRL wouldn’t allow it. It was only after Mbye left that he could be used, and was used straight away.

There is no point in whinging and bitching on.
I will back the board in this massive decision on our behalf as supporters
The AGM is early next year,1000 people will then decide what’s happening
I’m not happy getting smashed but we have been put into this predicament
Let’s be patient and give him a fair go with what he has to work with, basically nothing !
The dogs are never down for too long

Good decision. We will not be competitive until 2021, hopefully we can bring in 2-3 quality players and he does enough next year to get a shot with that roster.
I agree, I think it's a clever ploy. Otherwise you have players and fans blaming the coach as a scapegoat for performance. This is saying hey! We are in this together...it's a mental game. So tired of hearing to sack the coach after 2 games...ffs Millennials!!! Give it till at least 12 games

A one year extension indicates that our board are smart enough to have a performance based clause in his contract.
IMHO the extension sends a better message than just leaving things as they are, and it would give both Pay and the players some confidence for this year, as well as help with both our recruitment and retention for 2020 and beyond.
At the moment our club needs to show true grit.

We are being fed garbage. They're trying to say we don't have the players to be competitive because most are from reserve grade

Ben barba, latrell Mitchell, semi radrara, cameran Munster, rts and Cook all were superstars in their first year of first grade just to name a few.

We have seen Lewis, Martin and a few others play outstanding football , we have a team to win but lack leadership and decision making

I was outraged when I saw this but I guess a decent performance clause in there and it’s not such a bad play

I'm not just looking at Brown's Newcastle era but his total coaching career.

In 2005 Brown transformed an aging mediocre St George team, who lost 5 of their first 6 games to second on the ladder on points difference. It must be said that post 2006, after Brown put together and developed a strong side, he showed the inexperience of a young rookie coach and Saints high expectations ultimately ended up with no premierships.

From 2009 to 2014 he coached in the Super League and continued to learn his craft by promoting and developing some good young players. In 2009 he took Huddersfield to the Challenge Cup final and in 2013 and 2014 he guided St Helens to Super League Grand Final victories.

In 2015, the Melbourne Storm appointed Brown as a "coaching consultant". Brown who is regarded as having a good eye for young players worked on scouting assignments and provided specialist coaching.

There is no comparison between Brown and Pay. Brown has 16 years coaching experience, taking an NRL team to the grand final and whilst in England he coached teams to win the highest honors in the ESL. Browns experience was enriched when he had to commence team rebuilding with financial constraints. First at Saints, who in 2006 were over $6.5 million in debt and then at Newcastle who in 2016 were in debt to the NRL and ATO.

Pay on the other hand is a rookie coach who has only coached for one full NRL season.

And yet Pay won more games in his first season than Brown managed in 2, and only 1 less than Brown last season even with Brown having a superstar like Ponga to work with.

all i expected was a better performance in comparison to last year.

all the rookies stood up in the last few games of the last season.

Every single player from last year has gone back wards, every single one of them. tell me who is responsible?
Were missing Klemmer and getting dominated in the middle and missing J Moz which has really messed with our defensive structures, for starters. We also have Foran playing 6 which has forced Kewis to take on more of an organisational role.

How can you say every player has gone backwards after two rounds?

I know there is some cause for concern.... but honestly, some fans on here are a bit over the top.

We saw a drastic improvement in the performance of a number of players over the course of last season and we’ve had some significant departures and changes to adapt to. I think we will improve as the season progresses.

The reality is, not many would want the job of coaching us at the moment, we are trying to ride out a shit storm inherited from the previous coach and administration and the club has opted for stability. It was a one year extension, it’s not as though they locked Pay up for four years.

At least this signing should give that fuckwit Ennis something new to piss and moan about. You should be happy. We’re helping that dipshit stay relevant :p

Pay chose jmk and frawley over lewis at the beginning of the season.
That’s because he couldn’t choose Lewis (even if he wanted to) because he wasn’t registered with the NRL.
