VIDEO: Dogs set to unleash try-scoring sensation

By Staff Writers January 31, 2017

LOCAL junior Marcello Montoya has got plenty of tails wagging at Belmore after an impressive pre-season with the Bulldogs.

The 19-year-old winger, who captained NYC Bulldogs side, scored an impressive 19 tries in 18 games in 2016, averaging over 130 metres a game.

With top try-scorer Curtis Rona gone, Montoya will certainly be challenging for a place in the Bulldogs 17-man squad for round one, and the fans are sure to be behind a local boy looking to stamp his authority in the NRL.

Here’s all 19 of his tries from the 2016 season:

I have watched a fair bit of him in Holden Cup and NSW Cup and he's a good decent player. There's already been a few articles about him already predicting he will be a superstar which does nothing but put pressure on him. If he makes NRL he will be a solid winger nothing more.

Formula 1 is a pretty humble young kid. Have sat with his and D'Rhys Millers junior coach at footy games and he is extremely excited that these two young fellas, who showed great promise in the juniors are looking to take the step into a higher grade of footy. Says that they have no illusions as to the fact that it will be a tough assignment but they are well motivated to go the extra to achieve it.

I'll wait until the comp starts, first grade is like hitting a brick wall for a lot of rookies.

He does remind me of Rona A LOT... Same sort of build.. but I reckon Montoya is faster.

The Marcello Montoya hype is snowballing into a landslide. Marcello is one of the few new first graders the Bulldogs have who can make the big time in 2017.

When Curtis Rona came along he proved to be the perfect replacement for BMoz.
Then BMoz came back with a hellava bang and looked like the best left wing who had ever pulled on a boot. (With Rona then being wasted at right centre)
Then the 2016 season just fizzled out with Perrett retiring and Rona rah rahing..

But now the 2017 outside backs look a lot more potent than anything we've had in a long time.

1. Hoppa
2. BMoz
3. JMoz
4. Brenko Lee
5. Marcello Montoya

Now this is where the Marcello Montoya hype comes in to it. For all our hopes that the 2017 backline is one of our great success stories Marcello has to be the real deal.
