Adam Elliot.
Breached NRL and Club policy by stripping down naked and having his old fella flap around whilst in the presence of Board members and officials. Also committed a criminal offence.
Charged by the police and made headlines and was made to appear before the courts. Good behavior bond and fines were issued by the NRL of $320,000.
No game suspension and was allowed to continue to play. Given full support of the Club and board.
Corey.
Hooked up with a 17 year woman on tinder, brought her back the room and did the dirty. Not a criminal offence. Possibly help Rashays not signed the contract.
Rubbed out of the game. Contract torn up.
I do understand they are two totally different situations but if Elliot was given another chance for a criminal offence myself and many others do not see how it is fair that Corey is Fired.
Both did the wrong thing and both Cost the club huge money. Rashays deal was worth 2 mil and the Elliot incident cost us 300k.
In this case we don't know if the NRL or Club Code of Conduct was breached. If there's a definition around 'disrepute' that specifically pertains to public nudity/drunkenness or similar behaviour then maybe, but maybe not.
For clarity - no board members were present on Mad Monday - the coach and some staff were (and I've said numerous times they shouldn't have been - or they should've been toning things down when they were heating up - it might have been a private function, but it's still a pub).
Irrespective, the club fined both Elliott and Fine over their actions - and they were charged by Police. It turned out NOT to be a criminal offence because the magistrate did not record a conviction, only assigning a good behaviour bond.
The NRL fined the club $500k, 50% stayed on appeal pending no more offences. So the recent incident was a factor too - not only the club losing two sponsors, but if they didn't get out ahead of the issue, they faced owing the NRL another $250k.
Under those realities I don't consider what they did 'weak' leadership - but the opposite.
