Canterbury continue to be the most active team in the player transfer market and could be about to land another signing as the Sharks prepare to release a second player in a matter of days.

Canterbury have edged ahead of St George Illawarra in the race for Connor Tracey as they continue to strengthen their squad for coach Cameron Ciraldo.

Tracey has another year remaining on his deal at Cronulla but was given permission by the Sharks to explore his options on the open market.

The Dragons were the first side to show an interest but it is understood that the Bulldogs have now entered the race for the versatile outside back, who made his debut at South Sydney four years ago.

Tracey spent time at centre and wing this season for the Sharks before finding a home at fullback when Will Kennedy suffered an injury.

He was outstanding over the closing month of the season and his form piqued the interest of Cronulla’s rivals.

Their hope is that they can convince the Sharks to let him leave 12 months ahead of schedule, although Cronulla are likely to want some form of compensation.

The Sharks have already released five-eighth Matt Moylan from the remaining year of his contract, to take up a deal in the English Super League.

The Bulldogs have been one of the most active sides in the player market in recent months, signing the likes of Steve Crichton, Blake Taaffe, Drew Hutchison, Bronson Xerri and Kurt Mann.
They have also given former club captain Raymond Faitala-Mariner permission to explore his options on the open market, having initially told him to stay away from training.

It comes as the proposed deal between Canterbury and former Sydney Roosters prop Sio Siua Taukeiaho collapsed after a medical assessment revealed he had a foot injury which required surgery.

I love this guy as a player and had actually flagged a couple of years ago that we should have nabbed him when off contract at Souths.

The guy can play anywhere in the backline and could cover 9 at a pinch.

The one thing we will have this year over the previous years are that we finally have depth, the lack of depth has killed us in recent seasons.

Now, if we can just manage to free AFB from the Wah's for 2024 then finals here we come.

This guy is a top player, killed it at Fb last year and also has played top class footy at centre and 5/8 over the years. Has the ex factor too. Best utility out of the lot so far and shits all over Taffe at FB..

100% I don't know how anyone could be unhappy with this possible signing regardless of being a utility.
