Canterbury have signed 21-year-old Warriors prop Zyon Maiu’u, effective immediately.

We need a ball playing #13.
Preston, Sitili & Curran just don't seem to be that kind of player, based on 2024 evidence.
Happy to be proven wrong ... but think they'll persist with the current setup of Mann at 13 & Hayward/Salmon (hopefully not both) off the bench.
It would be great to have that sort of lock - someone like Dymock or Jason Smith or even Travis Norton. Mann can ball play, just a pity he's not a tad bigger and more durable. We need him to stay fit.

I think Curren could get get a good offload into his game. He finds his balance in tackles really well, but usually just powers ahead instead of offloading. TBH there didn't seem to be much emphasis on off-loading or backing up tight ball runners last year, but hopefully it's part of pur progression this year.

Bit of a step up from School footy to NRL. Don’t get sucked in by a YouTube vid.
Yeah I get that.i like the way he runs.he runs with mongrel...but yeah you're right.
Different story doing it at NRL.

I'd assume the thing blocking him getting a shot early would be the defensive system. Although it's entirely possible that with Webster having had a couple of years at the Wahs that they're using similar defensive structures.

But he's built like a brick shithouse for someone of 106kg. He runs with intent. Hopefully he at least pushes the rest of the pack with his efforts. Whether he breaks into the NRL side at any time is reliant on his work ethic from here on.
Yeh 100%. I think it’s up to the kid to really push himself and get his fitness up. Definitely a project player that is different to what we used last year.

He's a front rower...he will walk straight into our 17 IF he trains and trials well.. he's been a gun coming thru the warriors junior system..
Perfect impact forward for 15- 20 mins each half.
I guess that means pahulu isn't coming
Only issue is he barely plays over 40 mins in reserves. So fitness will be a challenge in nrl. But I think he starts in reserves. Is a bit behind with our preseason. Gets a bench spot for the trials. And if he impressed no reason he can’t do a Xerri and come in after 6 weeks in Reggies.

Amone, tupouniua, Todd, Fifita, underhill will most likely be infront of him. But no reason why he can’t leap frog a few of them with solid performances in reserves.

My God, if our NSW cup forward pack doesn't get together before round 1 and say let's go out there with intent and make a statement from the kick off I'll be disappointed.
Daniel Suluka-Fifita
Lipoi Hopoi
Harry Hayes
Luke Smith
Jack Todd
Jack Underhill
Zon Maiu'u
Kurtis Morrin .... all pushing for spots.
Tom Amone
Sutton early rounds

Not much heavier he is 113kg but way taller at 196cm.
106/183cm is plenty fine, his mobility and engine will be the key factors.
If he turns out anywhere near as good as olokuatu I'd be very happy.he looks like he's got alot of potential ,so hopefully he turns out to be a great buy.
