It's funny. I think if anyone was coaching the current squad we'd be losing 50-0 every week.

On the other hand though Des is probably also to blame for the shit squad in the first place. lol
Des is absolutely to blame for the current roster which doesn't have a recognised spine containing players in specialist positions. It's one of the glaringly obvious reasons we can't achieve the ultimate success under his reign.

The only reason we made it to those grand finals with Des was due to the fact we had Barba, Ennis and Hokko, specialists in key positions. Unfortunately, Melbourne were too good for us defensively and we missed Ennis due to suspension whilst Hokko was on one leg against the bunnies.

How can we compete today against teams with 2 x halves, a fullback & hooker who have control, direction, vision and a kicking game.

We currently have 2 x halves that are x-hookers who are natural ball runners, a fullback who was a specialist winger who is considered a centre and a hooker that struggles with some fundamentals of the role.

Overall, I think our squad tries hard, but we lack key people in key positions and the club needs to rethink its recruitment strategy. We also lack some depth.

Hasler has fuked up our roster.....we can't afford to buy quality players because Hasler can't make the right decisions....lol signing Tolman for another 3 years and resigning Eastwood to 2 years.....but the worse thing is he is accounatable to noone.....we have no depth...no up and coming superstars...look at the roosters...they have 2 quality players in almost every position

last year was last year who cares about the streak rolling into this year. 0/2 isn't a horrible situation, cowboys lost a few of their first games the year they won then they clicked into gear. Not saying it will happen to us but its by no means a season write off. I actually think we've improved, the roosters and storm are top teams and we were very unlucky to lose both games (went very close a number of times to scoring a 2nd try against the storm and against the roosters it was 5 tries a piece with goal kicking letting us down so there are definitely still some positive signs there
Yes, the cowboys lost a few but they also have a man in their #7 jersey called J.Thurston.

We have Mbye who struggles to kick, manage a game, perform try assists. Pretty much struggles to do anything a #7 is supposed to do.

As the saying goes, "pissing money against the wall"......that's what we would be doing if we sign him to another contract!

Mbyes confidence looks completely shot. Everyone involved from player coach to head office have fkd this experiment right up.

They either bite the bullet move him out to centre or hooker or cut losses and let the like of Titans or Broncos buy out his contract. Or the Warriors or Roosters who have an endless pit of money exempted from the cap

I believe KW can be a good club coach, but im not sure if he can juggle the 2 roles. Which is why these days they go for someone who's not affiliated with a club and vice versa. Bellamy tried but failed.
KW has stated he would walk away from all other duties should a full time NRL coaching job come up. A new approach with new ideas is desperately needed.
I would be happy with any of the names being suggested. Cleary, Pay, KW all would offer something different.
The hurdle facing anyone coming into the role, will be the mess they will inherit. It will take a few years of pain before they will see success. The fans also need to understand that.

Very interesting discussion on triple m regarding future of hasler....james hooper was saying how despite hasler coming out in round 1 and saying termination has never been discussed and that contract talks are ongoing and positive...however the power brokers at the club are playing a wait and see how the club performs over the first few rounds and that even though he as the full support of the playing group it is about how the team performs.....hooper was saying that basically Hasler's press conference in round 1 was to keep the wolves at bay but the heat is on Hasler. I honestly think Hasler will fall on his own sword before he is told he is not wanted. But this puts us in a bad position when planning for next year....we need a decision earlier rather than later so the club can make decisions regarding recruitment. The board need to make a decision early...but they are sacred of ruining team harmony and writing off our season if they make an early call. Talk about gutless and not making the tough decisions for the club. Just get rid of Hasler and bring in a new coach for next year...ffs its time for a change!

I think the board destroyed this year when they didn't get rid of him late last year. This year was always a write off, I would have preferred it to start the rebuild one year early.....we have wasted an entire year! The players have become too complacent sucking off Haslers power teat and alot that I would have kept 3 years ago I think need to be marched with him. Never getting dropped, no pressure to perform. I can only imagine what else has happened with the budget old mate has blown. A breath of fresh air is needed including board members. We need a fire sale.

The only coaches that have worked well for us historically are ex-players

A lot of the media are saying that we as fans are too harsh on our team and that Moses needs time to develop.

Develop if he must, but I honestly don't think that is as a half. I agree with the OP who said his confidence is shot. Round two and his arm is strapped up like a mummy and he was supposedly in doubt due to a knee complaint this week. Involvement in those games underwhelming and he is stuck in neutral. Going to be a long season for the young man if our fortunes don't turn around.

I can see some differences in our play and structure for the better at times in games; we have at least chanced our arm, but for the most part we have reverted to a one out roll up field and to a hooker who does nothing but tackle.

Early days yet in 2017 and in the past a 0-2 start has not spelt doom for sides but if we don't start getting some solid structures and tactics in play and build on it we may be on a hiding to nothing.
Most of our better moments have come from off the cuff moves and also being able to do something with possession which falls into our hands from drop balls etc. However not much that that we have actually created with inspiring play. Brenko Lee has shown some nice offloads and footwork but is still trying to come to terms with our defensive/ attacking structure. Game one, he and Reynolds showed some good cohesion together and Reynolds had a heap of touches, game two not so much.

I had forgotten about our run of losses end of 2016 as I tend to draw a line through things at end of season, but 4 losses from our last seven games and a loss in the semis, now 2 this year are not too inspiring. Even the three wins we had were against pretty ordinary opponents ( Dragons, Manly, Knights) and in those we basically fell over the line.
I won't abandon my team; I am hopeful that not withstanding our poor end to 2016 and our two losses this year we can still make a dent in the competition.

We definitely need a clean out....starting with Hasler and then getting rid of the rubbish players....are we going to wait until we finish in the bottom 8 before making decisions?

If we go 0-5 what's the bet that haslers going to say "I told you so"

Last year with his overly structured style of play we made the top 8 but this season because the board forced him to play a more open style we lost 5 in a row

Haslers got get out of gaol cards at his disposal

100%. Mbye looks like he is going to cry out there.

They placed way too much expectation on the wrong player.

Maybe we can do a player trade of Mbye, Tolman, Eastwood and Lichaa for Feldt and Taumalolo. Would even throw in 25 Rio Carnivals.

Could even entice Taumalolo with an endless supply of eggs from M&J Chickens

When you've finished your apprenticeship and your on the big bucks , development is over you put in and prove your worth.he has had time and enough off it .he took the big bucks now we want results

The best halfbacks were playing for Australia by the time they were 21, Moses turns 24 this year he's no longer an up and coming rookie who needs experience to develop.

That's assuming he has been in a system that does development. My take on the last 3-4 years is that our Props have been given the power and say to dictate our attack. Hardly an environment to improve a halves game? Especially by the time they get the ball it's after two fat forwards have held it for valuable seconds. Catch and get smashed.

Hearing Raelene say Des will definirely coach the dogs next year makes my blood run hot/cold.. Very indicative that there is a lot of corruption going on behind the scenes..

No doubt our halfs have been held back by Des but Mbye has had plenty of opportunity's to shine and he's failed or just gone missing completely.
