Last couple of coaches in GF's...

Cleary & Hasler
Smith & Bennett
Anderson & Bellamy
Bellamy & Hasler
Bellamy & Hasler
Bellamy & Bennett

There are no rookies amongst that crop. Dymock will need to top Moore's half hearted prelim effort to be considered an improvement.

Stop the whinging ffs.

If Dymock is good enough and the Dogs have a good season, he will be extended. If he isn't, we have options because he's not locked in.

Is it really that hard?

How the fck is this year a writeoff if JD is signed for one year? It will answer a lot of questions about him and various members of the playing group, and put us in a great situation come 2013.

There are no decent coaches or even players on the market at the moment so settling for rubbish would be a dumb decision.

I'm sure Dymock will be pumped at the chance to have a full offseason and season proper to show what he can do. Anyone that thinks he'll get dumped after a successful season has rocks in their head.
I agree, why the phuk is everyone so concerned about JD? as far as I am concerned it is a lot of the playing staff that need to questioned on what they produced in 2011.
KM did not help much I agree he was a jerk but there are a few players with an attitude problem, and a couple of positions that need to be filled with the right players and all will be sweet and they being a Mallony, a Hopoate (I think was a smart move by the scum bag Eel's) and an experienced Centre 3/4 + a Josh Dugan type of player that puts his body on the line, is still young and would be around a long time like the General was at Fullback.
Wayne Bennet has always said that a coach would be a fool to pay anything more than $250 - $300,000 a year for a forward because they are plentyfull you pay the big Bucks for your halves, Centre's Fullback and alittle less for your wingers.
Makes sense to me!!

I actually think it's pretty simple. Look at the coaches available:

Tier One:

Bennett - taken and on massive money for next 2 years at Newcastle

Bellamy - probably impossible to move from the Storm but worth a phone call

Sheens - signed up for a long time at the Tigers

Tier Two:

Cleary - Gould got him

Stuart - tied to SOO

The Others:

No one stands out as being better than Dymock really. Maybe they are better but if they are its not by much and the players like and respect JD.

I think they made a play for a tier one coach as they should have. He said come back next year and so they spoke to JD and said here is the situation: "This club deserves a Tier One coach but there are none available. We don't want to disrespect you by putting in a guy who is no better than you and maybe worse. You clearly have potential and you have done well with the team this year in your limited chance. Nothing will happen with Hasler until at lease June next year which give you quite a while to put a preseason and about 10-12 games into proving we don't need him. Are you happy with that? Oh and by the way, your salary goes to $300k for the year."
Bennet 4 years at Newcastle!

I for one am happy with this news. It proves that we have finally learnt some lessons. If things don't work out with Dymock at least we won't have the embarrassing situation again where we have to sack a coach who is on contract. If he is a success we can extend his contract.

As for hasler coming to the dogs, that is total bull sh!t. Hasler would be licking his lips at being presented with the opportunity to fatten up his contract to coach a club he was never going to leave in the first place.

Perhaps putting faith in an old war dog like Dymock can help revive the bred not bought ideals we as a club have seen to forgotten in recent times. You don't buy premierships you earn them by bashing the sh!t out of any bastards that want to stand in your way

Yeah but look at these rookie coaches and how long it took them to take their team to the gf

Bellamy - 4 seasons
Hasler - 5 seasons
Cleary - 4 Seasons

Hasler copped a 72-10 hiding against Penrith back in 03 or 04 and Delmege was considering sacking Hasler after that game.

Any idea who he will have to assist him?

Dean paye is the best defensive coach going around I reckon and what about a fitness coach. We should get a real hard nut

We're not a position to take ANOTHER gamble on a rookie coach.

Dymock, the former assistant of the sacked coach, who was the former assistant to a sacked coach.

this. and are we ready to write off kearney? is there any way he'd be extended after this year if he was on a one year deal?

one season is not enough to figure out if they're a keeper. might be enough to figure out if the coach is clueless, but good coaches work their magic over time. they build the team up a bit more each year, they have one eye on the present and one on the future. if you think dymock has what it takes to be head coach, give him a proper shot at it.

ask yourself this. if you're on a one-and-done contract, do you think you'll focus more on building something big that will last, or maximising your short-term returns?

If true if Jimmy gets a one year deal to coach, the challenge and incentive is there for him to prove to Todd and the board he is he right man for the role long term.

I hope he gets the gig. He deserves a chance after seeing the promise and potential the boys made in a short period of time.

To all the drama queens and worry warts... consider the following situation (and I'm not saying I'm right here).

There's no reason you can't take a caretaker coach over a year is there? Jim (from memory) has stated before that he doesn't mind being head or caretaker coach.

For analogies sake, lets say you are an apprentice, and your manager is going on holidays for a year, leaving you the reigns to the company to run over 12 months, at an increased pay rate. The deal being that when he comes back (or is replaced) after 12 months, you keep the same pay rate, and work as an apprentice again. That is as long as you do a decent job.

Less stress on the job, same pay rate.

Think about it :grinning:
Jim has had a sniff of the top Job and he wants it bad!!!

There's a lot of teams that need to be bashed, starting with the merge.

One-year Dymock deal tipped, but the Dogs are still barking for Hasler!!!

CANTERBURY are adamant that signing Jim Dymock to just a one-year contract will not be at the grave risk of next season becoming a write-off under the control of someone who could be regarded as a ''lame-duck'' coach.

The Bulldogs accept there will be some risk involved but believe it will be outweighed by the natural desire of Dymock and the players to be competitive and get something out of the season regardless of whether it is his only one in charge.

Dymock, who was the Canterbury caretaker coach for the tail end of the season just completed after Kevin Moore was sacked, is set to be announced as next year's coach later this week, but the club still hopes to sign Des Hasler as coach for 2013 and beyond.

If they don't get Hasler, who said after winning the grand final on Sunday he would honour his agreement with Manly for next year, they may still only sign Dymock for one year and weigh up the long-term future further down the track.

Manly are still negotiating with Hasler to extend his deal for two years until the end of 2014. There have been further talks between Hasler and Manly chairman Scott Penn this week, and they are scheduled to meet again tomorrow.

The Sea Eagles are doing their best to reach a figure that will compete with the $750,000 a year over three years the Bulldogs are understood to have offered Hasler, whose deal with Manly is worth about $450,000.

Ideally, the Bulldogs want Hasler for next year but are prepared to wait until 2013 to get him. But whether they get Hasler for 2013 or not, the Herald has learned Bulldogs powerbrokers believe there will not be a substantial risk of next season coming undone if Dymock is only appointed for one year.

That is because they see Dymock, who shared in the 1995 premiership with the Bulldogs and won the Clive Churchill Medal as best player in the grand final, as someone who will still view the opportunity as critically important to his career. They saw him putting everything he had into the last eight weeks of the the season even though there was never any guarantee he would get the job for next year, and don't regard him as the type of person who, because he didn't have the job long-term, would lose interest and drop his bundle at some stage next year.

Officials also saw the club's players support Dymock through their performances during his time as caretaker coach, and the club believes they will again next year, regardless of if it were his only year.

The fact the game has long been professional is another reason to believe players will rise above such a situation, because of their need to play well to increase their earning capacity. If the club did snare Hasler for 2013, the desire to impress him would be regarded as extra motivation.

For Manly, as a privately owned club that does not have the huge financial support from its leagues club that the Bulldogs enjoy, it is not a simple matter to come up with the extra money to offer Hasler what the market says he is worth after two premierships in four years.

Ultimately, it would have to come from the two groups that, between them, own almost 80 per cent of the Sea Eagles - the Penn family company and Quantum. What the owners are naturally trying to establish is how much the grand final win might be worth to the club in terms of sponsorship and merchandising.

Asked yesterday how talks Hasler were going, chairman Penn replied: ''We're still in dialogue. We're doing everything we can to keep Des.''
