Any of you plebs been?

Organizing my trip for early next year.

So far on the agenda we have
  • Cenote Ik Kil
  • Chichen Itza
  • Isla Mujeres

I do not know many people who have been so I haven't had many suggestions. TripAdvisor is useful to an extent. Was hoping you plebs might have suggestions or any intel!!

I was there in 2004 - first ever trip outside Europe for me. Went to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

How long have you got?

Chichen Itza's awesome (although a mate who went there the other year said they'd stopped tourists climbing up the massive pyramids. You certainly could ten years ago).

I don't know which Cenote you're talking about. There's loads of great little caves and underground pools around the Yutacan Peninsula that are like nothing else I've ever seen.

The cenote that I'm definitely going to is this one here:

Would love to find out the names of all the other ones!!

Don't know much about the region so trying my best to inform myself prior to the trip. I'll be in and around cancun for 11 nights, 7 nights in Hawaii

Yeah I've been, really clear waters ... great food, atmosphere

Isla Mujeres is good (you hire a scooter and spend the day doing a lap around the island, stop off and do stuff), jet skiing, parasailing, snorkelling etc

Playboy Casino LOL, the churches are really nice if you like that sort of stuff.

Head down to downtown Cancun, really eye opening ... pay a kid 70 pecos aka $6 and he'll be fed for a week, amazing

Great spot for a week or two

Very lovely place - was there this year during spring break, it was fantastic.

Stayed at a resort called Krystal. it was really nice, newish, perfect location (u walk to every bar and club - no need to cab it). Check it out.

We got an awesome deal. It included buffet breaky, lunch , dinner and unlimited alcohol in the resort, beach etc...

The beaches are nice and warm and we did a few trips -

We went to Chichen Itza (approx 3 hr bus trip) - and yes, u can not climb up their pyramids.... i think cause they are now on e of the wonders of the world.

We also went snorkling around their reef (similar to great barrier reef)

You and your mrs will love it. Go during their spring, but after spring break holiday. The weather will be sunny and 30 degrees!!!

hope this helps???

You guys will love it, even without the redzone lol ... we thought we were going to die

But yeah, you really need to go downtown. If you just stay in the hotel district you'll miss out on ALOT, like you said Isla Mujeres, down to the markets (25 Monte Cristo Cigars for 700 pesos, order food by weight it costs you $2 INSANE), Chichen Itza. You just have to watch the locals abit, they are very pushy and in your face. But that's all apart of the experience really

Snorkling was awesome, cause you ride your own boat out (following the guy of course), ride back, pretty cool

OH and do yourself a favour, about 100-150m before Coco Bongo (closer to the airport, you'll know what I mean) is a little Mexican food stand, just infront of "portofino apartments" and opposite "Senor Frogs" the BEST Burritos EVER made ... order it without beans, ridiculous !!

Soooo cheap too

Also, we hired Jet Ski's - not speed limited. i reckon we were doin 100ks on the beach. 3 rules - dont go near the rocks, dont crash into each other and dont come too close to the shore.... the rest of the beach is your playground! Cost us $55 US for 1/2 hour.

here are some pics of cancun:

We're staying at The Royal in Cancun. It's pretty plush. room is fantastic and has several restaurants. Food & drinks are all inclusive along with several other bonus ****.

I want to go to Chichen Itza and Cenote Ik Kil on the same tour. Hopefully there is a trip that will cater for that as they are pretty close together.

We are going around the start of March. Is that pre - during - or post spring break? Our hotel is Adults Only andf I doubt spring breakers would shell out for such a nice hotel so we should have some atmosphere when we want it I'm guessing.

Helps a lot...thank you very much

maybe some day trips down town. These Markets are in Playa? Or Cancun city?

Mate - I am going to bookmark this thread...the missus and I are obsessed with Mexican food so I am reallly looking at trying some authentic burritos. I think we have tried nearly every mexican joint in sydney lol

You can do a day tour where they stop at three different places.

I think spring break in the US is for the month of March - im not 100% sure (but the weather is awesome) i was at there middle of March this year.

I beleive the Markets are in Cancun (the tourist strip)

Bulldog is a club - it hosted a binki contest which quickly turned into a topples concert... :P

Also, if you do want a night out, organise for table service - it costs like $40 US per person and you get unlimited bottles of alcahol (Red label scotch & Smirnoff) all night.... The tables and the alcohol do not compare to the clubs in Vegas, but at least you are guaranteed a seat...

Brother, best place in the world, I actually feel homesick when I'm not there. My misses has relatives there. I actually got married at the Royal (MP4 was there), best service you will ever have in you life.

There is so much I can recommend to you to do. Xcaret and Xplore are awesome theme parks. Also visit La Isla which is a shopping centre which is an island, it has an aquarium which has a dolphin trainer program and you can feed a shark too.

Nightlife: Coco Bongo is the best club there, all the clubs are next to eachother on the main strip and apparently the Bulldogs Cafe goes off on certain nights. Oh and there is even a nice Lebbo restaurant called Sahara in downtown.

Isla Muheres: About a 20 min boat ride from Cancun, you need a scooter or golf cart to get around the Island. Make sure you check out the light house and grab a cold coconut to drink/eat and feed the iguanas, check out the turtle and shark farms and have lunch on beach.

Play del Carmen: Another awesome beach which is about 1hr coach ride, nice to spend the day there.

Best way around everywhere is on the buses. It costs 7 pasos (about 60 cents) and fast way to get around because they race eachother to beat them to fares LOL

You want any more information just ask

BTW All the clubs have OPEN BAR included in the cover charge. If you're with the misses, they usually let the ladies go in for free and half price for you just to get you into the club.

Make sure you pay the waitresses 2 bucks and they give you a shot of tequila, Mexican style
