Cameron Smith to retire from representative footy for Queensland and Kangaroos, effective immediatel

QUEENSLAND and Kangaroos captain Cameron Smith will today drop a representative rugby league bombshell by announcing he is finished playing for the Maroons and Australia, effective immediately.
A press conference has been called with Smith and Queensland coach Kevin Walters at 1pm in Melbourne where the announcement will be made.

The bombshell announcement will leave the Maroons with a huge void to fill in a position Smith has made his own since 2003.

The champion no.9 will be celebrated as one of the greatest big-match players the game has seen and the greatest hooker of all time.

Another thing that will be a big decision now is that Qld now do not have a specialist Goal Kicker. Have been very lucky over the years with Parker, JT & Smith. Unsure now who may take this up from current/expected squad?

I remember Greg Chappell, Dennis Lillee and Rod Marsh all retired in 1984 just before Australia were scheduled to play the west indies in 10 consecutive test matches. They saw the writing on the wall and didn’t want to face them.
Cameron Smith I believe realises that QLD’s dominance is over. Best to get out now and end a career on a winning note.
