Heard that he was considering this after the last series close to twelve months ago because of his family etc. and leaves it until just over 3 weeks prior to the series commencing.

Does not need the money anymore after 42 appearances at 30k a pop plus his testimonial......

Yeah, he's also been a shithead which a few key Maroon selectors are aware of and has been given at least 1 warning.

Another thing that will be a big decision now is that Qld now do not have a specialist Goal Kicker. Have been very lucky over the years with Parker, JT & Smith. Unsure now who may take this up from current/expected squad?

I say this with no sarcasm but qld will now be under dogs, yep under dogs now we know nsw has a habit of every year predicting a new dynasty and how maroons are done but they said the same when Lockyer retired and the same when Thurston left last year . I think nsw will feel more pressure to win but when I look at qld I can see smith having a big void on the team he is arguably the greatest hooker to play the game and I admit he is a bit dirty when he plays .
