Great news for the club and the Belmore community to ensure BSG is the training base of the Bulldogs long term and the facilities are upgraded.. Well done to Khoury, Gus, Warburton and all involved.

Gus getting a centre of excellence built at Penrith and emphasising junior development was a huge part of their success and he's trying to do the same with us. It might take a few years but we'll see the benefits of all of these foundations being built soon enough.
I’m not too fussed about playing at Belmore anymore but needs to always be our home base.
A new stadium would have been nice, not really priority at the moment we really need to see our team compete again and a top class coach.

No details and no start date. Sounds like a thought bubble that might result in a few tins of Taubmans and 30 brushes.

I don't get the centre of excellence. Don't we already have one under the grand stand. Or is this a new grandstand?
I thought we had a world class centre of excellence when Des was the coach. What happened to that?

Thanks Tony Burke!
It was Stuart Ayres of the NSW LNP who announced the funding. It would be good if the federal ALP and state LNP were co-operating, but Tony Burke is not mentioned in the article.

We could have already had a dedicated stadium and club at Liverpool if the NSW Labor Government had not refused to grant the poker machine licence.
Is the site in Liverpool big enough to get a stadium in though

yep - its massive - the population growth just within the cbd would make it a winner cant see why there isnt a stronger push to make it happen -

The site is large but it has lot of facilities already on it;
  • Whitlam Leisure Centre
  • KU Liverpool preschool
  • Liverpool SES
  • Liverpool Pathology Centre
  • Liverpool Netball Assoc with 32 Netball Courts
  • NSW Ambulance Station
  • Liverpool Girl Guides
The actual land available to use for a stadium is quite long (maybe long enough) but not very wide (definitely not wide enough).

I can't imagine it being very easy to convince the above to move out to make enough space for a stadium, with parking.

Always a Bulldog

I think that is where creativity and collaboration comes into it (club local state federal government) - i was there a few months back - it is / was very run down - all the groups mentioned could have their facilities incorporated within a new updated facility - the population just within walking distance will be massive - also close to railway

Isn't the previous centre of excellence excellent any more?

Why are NRL clubs receiving government hand-outs?
Sorry, what?

The headline in the Tele said it all: $113m win for NRL clubs.

“Great!” I thought. New broadcasting deal? New sponsorship? Private equity deal? Ummm, no.

The “win” has come from you and me, the NSW taxpayer. The story goes on to detail how the NSW government will contribute funds for world-class rugby league training facilities to develop the stars of tomorrow at Belmore Sports Ground, the University of Wollongong and Kellyville Park, as part of an initiative to be unveiled in Tuesday’s state budget.

“The state government will spend $113m to support the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, St George Illawarra Dragons and Parramatta Eels in delivering three new centres of excellence to find and develop future male and female NRL and NRLW players . . .”

You get the drift. Different year. Same old shit.

One more time for the dummies. In a state where so many worthy causes are crying out for resources – think schools, hospitals, LISMORE – why on earth is the Perrottet government handing out huge chunks of taxpayer cash to these clubs?

Friends, this is not just madness, it is sustained madness. It comes from the same dynamic which gave us #StadiumSplurge. It is a decision with bugger-all consideration for what the people actually need. Make it stop!

Friends? Peter Fitzsimmons is not a friend to any rugby league supporter. His soapboxing and moral crusading is simply just a vehicle for him to get his name out there. He is scum, speaking about “what people actually need” whilst sitting in his Mcmahons point mansion. The very embodiment of a Champagne socialist.

Also, he would like to think that he was responsible for the Homebush redevelopment not going ahead, but instead of the needed works we now have the suburban grounds getting redeveloped. So the “Stadium Splurge” is still going ahead, just not with what is actually needed. We’re now going to have to wait another 20 years to get the Olympic stadium done up, unless we get the FIFA World Cup or something… Homebush done up would have been great for all sports fans. I really don’t like Peter Fitzsimmons.
