Rona would be a huge loss, but I doubt we could offer him anything in the vicinity of what The Western Force are.

Brenko's a bit raw. Under the tutelage of Des, he could really blossom.

I hope Rona is not leaving but Lee could be his replacement. I hope he's Sam Perret's replacement instead.
Rona to Unyawn.... Western Force, his Missus comes from there and what a great example of a woman his Wife is.... a stunner!!

NRL: Canberra Raiders' Edrick Lee says cousin Brenko wrestled with decision to sign with Bulldogs

  • Jon Tuxworth

"That decision has been made and now he's focused on making the squad stronger for the rest of the season.

"If he gets another chance to play [first grade] it would be a fitting farewell.

The Raiders are a long-time advocate for salary-cap relief or discounts for developing young talent like Lee and Woolford.

Brenko was discovered by Canberra scouts in Brisbane and was put in their system from an early age.

"That [recruiting established players from other teams] traditionally hasn't been our go," Furner told Fairfax Media on Wednesday.

"Traditionally, we'd put guys on scholarships at 17, 18 and just when they start to bubble up and repay the faith, the way the world is, is that they go to the highest bidder. It's frustrating and it's possibly made us look at our model and change things."

Edrick said the Raiders' huge contribution to Brenko's growth as a player and person made it difficult to leave.

"It took him a while to make the decision but all in all he's very thankful for what the Raiders have done.

"He moves on after the season but that's rugby league, you have to take an opportunity elsewhere and hopefully make the best of it."

NRL ROUND 21

Sunday: South Sydney Rabbitohs v Canberra Raiders at ANZ Stadium, 2pm. Tickets from Ticketek. TV: Live on Fox Sports 1.

NRL: Canberra Raiders' Edrick Lee says cousin Brenko wrestled with decision to sign with Bulldogs

He helped create the roadblock but Canberra Raiders winger Edrick Lee says his cousin Brenko had little option but to jump ship to Canterbury to further his career.

Bereft of opportunities behind a firing Raiders back five, a desire to cement a first-grade spot convinced Brenko to sign a two-year deal with the Bulldogs.

He joins Zac Woolford and Lachlan Lewis as Raiders junior to sign with the Belmore club this year.

A hamstring injury to Edrick and the suspension of centre Joey Leilua have allowed Brenko to play five of his 11 NRL games on the wing in 2016.

"One thing we spoke about was the opportunity, what's the best fit for him and the family back home," Edrick said.

"I told him whatever decision he made I'd support him 100 per cent.

Hopefully we got a money back guarantee on this deal....because on tonights efforts he'd struggle even in NSW Cup.
The guys on the radio were practically crucifying him and said he was very ordinary early on.

He isn't much of a winger, much better at centre and can play either side. Hasn't brought any of his 20s form to firstgrade though...he was an absolute monster back then.
