Daryl Millard will be fighting for his spot at the talent-filled Bulldogs in coming weeks - an unusual situation for a bloke who should be in the NSW Origin team. Well, according to the stats anyway.
The Daily Telegraph has crunched the numbers and come up with a NSW Origin team based on statistics in our NRL Supercoach competition. And Millard makes the grade, much to the surprise of the man himself.
“I don’t know how I got there,” the St George junior says. “I’m a long way off thinking about Origin yet.”
What is NRL Supercoach? Join in the fun
Millard’s name may not be getting uttered at NSW selection tables, but when it comes to unsung heroes of the NRL, the Fijian World Cup star must be near the top of the list. Up there with Gold Coast’s Brett Delaney. And Newcastle’s Chris Houston. And a stack of other stars who have forced their way into our NSW Fantasy All-Stars team.
And yet, with Josh Morris set for a return from injury, Millard may be without a first grade spot in a few weeks time.
“Yeah, I’m not too sure (what will happen when Morris returns),” Millard admits. “Josh was in great form before he got injured. Jamal (Idris) has been in outstanding form too. I guess being behind them isn’t that bad because they’re both great players.”
Great players both. But with injury ruling Morris out and Idris just off the Supercoach pace, neither could pip Millard for a spot in the NSW fantasy All-Stars - a team containing only eight players from the NSW side set to take the field next Wednesday: Kurt Gidley, Jarryd Hayne, Terry Campese, Luke Bailey, Robbie Farah, Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis and Craig Wing.
Gone are high impact stars like Michael Jennings, Michael Weyman and Luke O’Donnell. In come an army of stat-crunching workaholics led by Nathan Hindmarsh, Craig Fitzgibbon and Anthony Laffranchi.
The All-stars would wallop the actual team by 94 points in a fantasy game. But as we know, stats aren’t everything.

Notes:
* Josh Morris and Feleti Mateo would both have made the Fantasy All-Stars team, but were not included because of injury
* Jamie Lyon’s score would have qualified him for a centre spot in the Fantasy All-Stars, but he is only available as a five-eighth in Supercoach, where he was pipped by Terry Campese.
I didn't put this in Bulldogs Discussion because it only says the word Bulldog once.
