Ozzy Osbourne Shot in the dark
Yngwie Malmsteem - shot in the dark
Richie Sambora - church of desire
Deep purple - smoke on the water
Kiss - detroit rock city

Just a few
Personal option makes this one song impossible to select. For at least my age bracket, I think Nirvana: Smells Like Teen Spirit is our rock anthem.

Too much good music to be able to single one out and each generation will have their own opinion, I am not old for the record I just heard alot of older relatives classic metal and rock

I'm not grouping you as older, it was more a generalised comment that it's going to be hard to find THE rock song to define the genre.

The questions is what defines the best rock song ever?
The guitar solo? Not all bands and songs are focused on melt your heart out solos i.e smells like teen spirit
The lyrics? Most songs people dont get the meaning of :P
The voice? All these bands have classic singers
Im guessing all of these togther, but rock has changed over times and what was good at one time isnt used as much now.
Impossible :grinning:

Average? You need to go do some research and you won't need to go far to find an absolute plethora of info. I'm not a fan really, but I pay credit where it's due. These guys didn't become huge and hold the status they do for nothing. They inspired so many things in rock n roll, such as a massive percentage of the hard rock vain that exists even in todays bands. Each to their own I guess

;)

way too many for just one, but i'll throw this in

Master of Puppets ftw.
Anything pre-self titled album for mine. I'm not down on them for what they did after And Justice For All (Newsted rocks), but CLIFF BURTON FTW
Puppets my fave hands down
:headbange

dont ever blasphemy by claiming that november rain is the best rock song ever lol.
Just know that the thread title is not literal. Always take it for 'your fave'. My fave Gunners is anything off Appetite for Destruction. Such a dirty and provocative album. True hard rock. Reminded me of when Motley Crue hit the market with Shout At The Devil back in 84.

Iron Maiden has to be up there.
One of the greatest Metal pioneers of all time. Never was a huge fan, but credit where it's due.

MrCharisma mentioned Butterfly Effect (great band btw) but I think i'll throw in probably the biggest home grown rock act we have (which hasn't been mentioned) - AC/DC

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=H1iR2Wi3u5o

I know alot of people have their fave and i'm not saying this is their best, but I have way too many fave acca dacca songs, so I figured i'd throw this in.

Now - ALL HAIL TO THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS
THE GODFATHER OF HEAVY METAL
OZZY OSBOURNE

This one has one of the greatest heavy rock solos i've heard. Always surrounded himself with great musos, this one is of Zakk Wylde.
'slash of the kennel' will love this for the Gibson Les Paul and his playing. Watch for the main solo. The absolute centrepiece :D

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=mHNmyN6mPsM&feature=related

And this one is when the great Ozzman was not having one of his best days on the vox, prob full of piss and coke as usual, but played alongside one of the pioneers for modern rock guitar who was one of the first to cross classical guitar and rock riffs and you now have so many players who can thank this man for what they're doing today - R.I.P. Rhandy Rhoads. Again, watch for the main solo, awesome stuff

That'll do me or i'll be here all day lol. I love my music as much as I love my League and the Dogs for that matter
Cheers

Dogaholic's list is the best so far.

You shook me, by AC/DC should be up there as well.

If anyone hasn't seen Celine Dion performing You Shook Me by AC/DC, I urge you NOT to. I'm still recovering. It's on youtube, so if you feel like throwing up, have a look on there.
