Benji Marshall in trouble???

Just caught the end of a news article on Channel 7.

Something about a fight outside a McDonalds restaurant after being heckled.

Sober, and punched a guy in the face, leaving lacerations.

Will have to wait and see what happened before crucifying him. If Benji was involved then he is a very stupid man.

Racist taunts spark Benji Marshall brawl

The poster boy of the NRL, Benji Marshall, claims racist taunts provoked him to punch a man in the face yesterday.

Marshall's manager, Martin Tauber, told The Sun-Herald that a group of eight to 10 people baited the Wests Tigers superstar in The Rocks about 3.20am, allegedly calling him a "black c---" and telling him to "f--- off back to New Zealand".

Mr Tauber confirmed that Marshall – pictured centre, left as the star of The Sun-Herald's 2011 Footy Guide – retaliated by punching one of his alleged tormenters in the face at the intersection of Bridge and George Streets. It is another setback days before the start of the NRL season following a run of scandals. In the past week, Todd Carney has been charged with drink-driving while league identities have been arrested over the Bulldogs betting sting.

The NRL selected Marshall – a clean skin – to officially launch the NRL season at Casula during the week. Marshall's mother, Lydia, said he was not intoxicated when they left the Four Seasons Hotel after a fundraising partnership between the Benji Marshall Foundation and the Children's Cancer Institute of Australia. "The boy is not at fault," Tauber said.

Dont blame him for doing what he did however a man of his mainstream stature should obviously never react to situations such as these. Always gonna be bad news if you do.

Aren't we all sick of scandals? And what's even worse is this guy was heralded as the face of rugby league.

Ok to be honest a bit of resilience and common sense needs to be shown. Being told to f**k off back to New Zealand is hardly a reason to punch someone in the face, nor is being insulted about your skin colour. People who need to throw around racist remarks are obviously having little intelligence. Benji should have just looked at him and just been a bigger man and walked away. Walking away and being a bigger man is far more important than retaliating to some half wit.

And anyone who doesn’t agree with me is just a ill informed and of the same class as the individual who uses racist remarks to incite a response.

I understand where you're coming from mate.

But, being called to f*** off back to New Zealand, as well as getting called a black c***, during the heat of the moment, I'm not surprised he acted the way he did.

We can look back, and say he took the wrong course of action, but he acted during the heat of it all, where as we can look back on it..

So the bloke that copped it, deserved it. (Pending his side of the story)
