RABBITOHS captain Roy Asotasi called on Roosters trash talker Willie Mason to back up his mouth when the pair clash in a round one blockbuster tomorrow night.
Mason lit the fuse for a fiery encounter early this week when the Roosters recruit declared his hate for the Asotasi-led Rabbitohs.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph yesterday, Asotasi labelled Mason a human headline before calling on him to back up his talk.
"He usually does back it up," Asotasi said. "He has played for his country but he just has to make sure he does it on Friday night.
"He is always after a headline. He speaks his mind and that's Willie.
"But we won't be targeting him specifically."
When asked whether he wished Mason was a bit quieter when the pair were teammates at the Bulldogs, Asotasi replied:
"Sometimes," he said. "But at the end of the day he has an opinion and he is a good mate of mine. He just loves to speak his mind."
Asotasi said Mason's comments would put pressure on the Roosters heading into the ANZ Stadium clash.
"Yeah, it puts the pressure on them," he said. "Definitely not us.
"But they are probably the most experienced pack.
"They have Willie and Mark O'Meley so they will be tough. I think there is a rivalry between the clubs and there is plenty of history. It is a game we both look forward to."
Souths forward David Kidwell refused to bait Mason, with his two-year-old Tri-Nations hit still ringing in most fans' ears.
"It was a long time ago," Kidwell said. I am just going out there to do my job.
"I don't hate the Roosters, I love them. I used to play for them but come Friday night I will be doing everything I can to get over the top of them. We are just happy to go about his business. We will just put the hard work in."
