Alamoti finally got a test against men. Had some poor moments but ran strongly. What if we played him on the wing to start the season. Not overly fast but can break tackles and get our sets started & Built like Brian To’o. And since okunbor is shit and we’re short on good wingers why not give it a try?
Eventually he can move into the centres after some first grade experience but I think we should try fit him in our squad somehow.

Bolter for the wing is Creedence Toia but the safe route may be Allen or moving Naden to wing and adding Burns at centre.

Alamoti is a special talent, he looks an out and out centre but wouldn’t be against the idea of him on the wing either. His time will come, 2023 for mine.

no he is 18, let him learn against men in reserve grade. He still qualifies for flegg, let him enjoy his footy, if he excels then yes but give him at least half a season in reserve grade

He is far too slow for wing. He has hardly played for 2 years & needs a good run in regies. I'm not holding a couple of bad incidents against him - he is still very young & there is plenty of time. All the good judges rate him, we shouldn't rush him.

Has a very distinct lack of pace. And it will get worse as he builds up his body to the rigours of NRL.

There is a degree of logic in debuting rookies when the team is at its strongest rather than wait till its is weakened by injuries and suspensions - find a spot - doubt he would be a burden on the wing like Okunbor.

I think long term Alomoti will be a forward similar to Cam Murray, Radley etc - what speed he has is over the first 20 metes gets to top speed quick.

He's not ready to play FG yet and playing him put of position on the wing would do him no favours. Leave him in the centres. Be patient with him. I'm sure later in the season he'll play some FG and will be a much stronger and more confident player after he's played against men in Reserves for a while..

Agreed. Develop in cup for a year. Have a crack later in the yr
Was a bit slow but Clune is deceptive fast.
Clune was probably as quick as Dufty but had to run from infield to try and catch him, i didn't know he had that sort of pace. Alamoti not being able to go length of the field and score is a definite forgive after seeing that

Yeah, Clune is very fit and fast. I've noticed this with those players that are of his ilk and late bloomers, they gotta be the fittest they can to keep up.
Dufty mentioned it after that Clune is quick, he came from a long distance to get him to as you say.

It's an interesting proposition, because the traditional winger is tall and fast, but To'o and a few others that don't have those characteristics have performed very well. Our own Matty Utai for example. They've shown that the prototypical winger isn't necessarily the best type. Looking at To'o's game, he is a very strong starter of sets returning the ball. This is his best attribute and Alamoti has that. You don't need a lot of pace either as we've always been lead to believe. Sure it helps, but if the inside men are doing their jobs, wingers will score mostly from close range, so just need a short sharp burst of speed and power. Having a To'o/Alamoti build can score you points from barge overs close to the line also.

I like big wingers but Alamoti doesn't seem to have the pace... hopefully, he spends a good year in reserves and can look to claim the left centre position on the inside of Josh Addo-Carr in 2023
