Not sure if because a bigger room or a smaller crowd but seemed a bit more subdued this year - likely a sign that the feeling is things are travelling well overall.

Impressive commercial performance and strategy for moving forward. Club is profitable.

Gus spoke about Karl O in terms of what can be said publicly. At this stage he is unlikely to play football again - that’s why he’s living with his family in Redcliffe, so @Tone and whoever else who said he’s signed with the Dolphins are WRONG. The Bulldogs are supporting Karl as in Gus’ words: ‘A career ending injury isn’t easy news for a young man to receive - and we don’t want him to have a broken heart on top of that’. There’s processes to work through with the NRL and more will be said when it can be said, that’s all there is to it.

Darren Smith (#544) and James Graham (#739) were both made life members and spoke well. Bupa ran with the info from Gus that we’re ~$700k under the cap for this season and said if anyone has a time machine he’ll happily take that and play prop :-).

A motion was also passed to raise the number of members required to call an EGM so that should take care of any muckrakers which is good.

Roll on 2025!

He basically confirmed KO was being medically retired imo

Also said we got offered upwards of 700k to play our usual Bundaberg game in WA or NZ but wants to keep it in Sydney going forward. Apparently Cam was concerned we haven’t played at Allianz in case we ended up in a finals game there.

Sad news for KO. I hope we can do something to ease his transition away from the game. From what I've seen, we did all we could to get him back on the field. But sometimes it's just not meant to be despite a player having some talent.

I don't know if it's best to rip the band aid off and set him up with training for a new career, or try to keep him involved at some level with a role around the club. But I'm glad we're trying to deal with this without just throwing him on the scrapheap.

Would like to see events like this become available to members as a live stream or something

Real shame about Karl. Gone from the most highly rated junior in the game to retired before he's career even got going. Guess he's lucky he played NRL at all. Didn't they say it was similar to the problem Minichello had ? Wonder if there's been any sucees treating this condition overseas. We're now short a half for this year and pretty sure we won't be re-signing Hutchison for 2026. Maybe why Gus was reportedly talking to Sean O'Sullivan

With that 700K for this year PLEASE sign Tom Hazelton. There was talk he might be able to get an early release

It's so much better sinking 9am schooners, eating finger food for brekky/lunch and watching it live. But I agree. Would be good if it could be streamed for football club members who can't make it.

Can you believe that they didn’t open the bar and food until after the meeting?? Guess you can have brekkie beers in the Sports Bar though :-).

Don’t think they’ll stream it as they make a statement about not recording it before it starts and Warby even said today ‘Some of our initiatives we don’t want other clubs getting momentum on’. Some people travelled today from places like Wollongong etc.

Granted I haven't been for a few years maybe even pre covid. But yes the sports bar did get a workout haha

Apparently the genetic disease is called spinal cervical stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal canal which puts pressure on the nerve branch’s which causes pain and loss of strength in the upper limbs, surgery does help relieve the symptoms but apparently it’s a progressive disease and is very dangerous if you play contact sport with that disease. No source or evidence of this but been told from a friend that that’s the condition of Karl. Very rare at his age more common in people over the age of 50.

Feel for the young kid.
Hope he doesn’t risk it and sign to play somewhere else.
